The fact that people are discussing this already says that there's at least some truth to it

We look at aggregation sites like FameCount, and sure, now we see Bieber and Rihanna closing in on Gaga. That is not how it started out.
Gaga EXPLODED. It was unreal. She went from having to no views to obliterating Britney as the most-viewed artist on the web (at the time). She rose to the top of everything social and everything media. Now, it's necessary to do these things to remain competitive. You have to be excited about your music, you have to have a presence and a fanbase and get other people excited as a music.

Yes, yes, that's true. I think my post came off as more dismissive than I meant for it to be. You're absolutely right on with your point about Bieber and Rihanna (although one could argue that Bieber is perhaps even more prominent as the king of media and Internet exposure because he got famous off YouTube and exploded online at least as quickly as Gaga did).

I'm talking about this is like Disco era again, there are few songs that aren't electro pop songs that are hits nowadays.
Yeah that euro/techno pop sound was popular in the 90's (especially in Europe) but during most part of the 00's, hip-hop and urban sounds dominated but they were still a lot pop, pop/rock songs that did well on top 40, today radio plays electro-pop almost 24/7.
I still think Gaga made a lot to contribute this huge new wave of pop.

lol exactly, how could Gaga "pave" the way for Katy when they both came out around the same time? Katy had instant success with 'I kissed a girl' --- 'Just dance' took awhile for it to become big and well known to the general public who follows pop music.
Ke$ha's music is drastically different from Gaga so I don't know what "little monsters" are talking about.

You know, keep in mind that just because a famous person says
something about Lady Gaga, doesn't make it true, ya'll.

I don't think this is the case either. All of them are still having major success, whether Gaga is in it or not doesn't really affect there fans and popularity.

Well, isn't that why we are discussing it, sis?
He's from the music industry and he made his point. Whether it's true or not, it's just up to you.

Are we forgetting that Gaga and Katy made their debut around the same time? I saw a "little monster" say the other day that Gaga paved the way for Katy Perry, that statement is laughable for several reasons. Gaga hasn't paved the way for anyone, her impact is undeniable but Katy & Ke$ha would still be making the music their making with or without "Lady Gaga" so let's not.
|
Yeah I agree, Katy became popular before Gaga and her debut wasn't electro-pop. "Just Dance" didn't start to smash until December '08 at least in the US. by then IKAG and HNC were huge.

I honestly do believe that Lady Gaga has influenced modern day artists to become more artistic, or theatrical rather. Sure, we've seen all this before. But it was all dead for quite sometime, or just unnoticed. Lady Gaga came and took the world by storm. There is no disputing that. Her success, her influence, and her power just rubbed off on many. Record labels are prompting artists to be a little more than basic with their image and stage persona. There is more of a theatrical aspect to the pop movement right now. I do believe we can credit Lady Gaga for this, at least as ONE of the factors.

This.
I see nothing but the truest tea in Cowell's statements. When you have MTV writing articles contemplating who tried to out-Gaga Gaga the most, something is going on.

I'm not a fan of Gaga but let's put it like this, she knocked Single Ladies out of the number 1 spot with Just Dance...

A change would indicate something new was arisen by Stefani but all the legends like Michael, Madge, Xtina, Prince, Stevie, etc, etc, etc have done all this before, and actually put something new forth, and brought change in the face of pop music so people like Gaga can do what they love. That’s nothing but the truth, and we all know it.
