"The River" should have been the second single from the album of the same name, together with the Top 5 "Hungry Heart" it would have maintained the momentum of the album and could have made it into a mini Born in the USA, or at least a lot bigger than it was. The song is the most instantly likable on the album apart from Hungry Heart (and the best).

"Sad Eyes" should have been released as a single off the Tracks compilation, it could have been a hit at Adult Contemporary just like "Secret Garden" was.
