Discussion: Sexual Orientation: Why Do People Care So Much?

Why are people so bothered when it comes to someone's sexual orientation?

I realize I shouldn't care what other people think, but it pisses me off cause this prejudice leads to bullying, unnecessary suicides, broken families, and damaged individuals. Is it so hard to live treating people the way you would like to be treated regardless of your life circumstance?

Those religious nuts really do it in for me. They talk about caring and forgiveness, but suddenly they're all from Bethlehem and have never cheated before or lied or stepped in dog poop and feel the need to chastise people because of how they were born.

It's not even an issue of people caring about what I do in my bedroom...for all they know I could be murdering someone in my room. In that case the police SHOULD care about what I'm doing in my room. But what's the fascination about what I do with my own damn penis?? Unless I'm choking someone with it, nobody should be bothered.

It amazes me the lengths people will go to to try and control how I live my life, then judge me for not following the blueprint they believe is the "right" one. SMDH

I'm probably going to get backlash for this, but....honestly the LGBT community really likes to exaggerate their "struggle". And nothing is more frustrating when they try to parallel it to the Civil Rights Movement. Just appalling.

God of the gaps is closing, and people are starting to ask the most important question of all, "WHY ****?!?", why can't gays get married? Why are gays bad? Why are gays wrong? Why are gays immoral? In this day and age, "Because I said so" or "BECUZ ITS IN DA BIBLE!!!111" just doesn't cut it, and kids are beggining to think for themselves.

You do know that it's not just gay people that parallel it to the Civil Rights Movement, right?

And, yeah they are two different struggles, but to say they like to exaggerate their struggle (a mess at your quotation marks as if it's not a struggle) is going a little bit too far. Especially when you look at the current state of most kids and adults nowadays that think it's cute to go to school and shoot a gay boy or girl in their head, chaining them to a fence after beating them or the recent classic of driving over them and leaving them for dead. Marriage, health benefits, not getting fired from their jobs etc. are just the icing on the already ****ed up cake. But, you can stay appalled.

I don't think they do anymore, if you don't make an issue out of it most people won't either. Its really not an issue in most places, sure its harder when you're younger but its better than ever for people not caring.

It's easier to be yourself than to be anyone else. Of course certain people are going to have a problem with it and mouth off about it and try to force you to live by the ever present heteronormative culture that we're all expected to follow. But, it's all about going against that in a way. Some might not like it and want you to change who you are, but that **** is never fun.

And, most religious fanatics who spend most of their time talking how gays are bad and ruin the world are the same ones getting caught on Grindr or trying to coarse kids into doing things with them for hush money (which they usually get caught for). Like, I have not come across one homophobe that has not either been with a guy or has some repressed sexual urges. There are homophobic females as well though, but they hide it better than straight guys. Unless, we're talking about that bitch who heads the Westboro church. Which in that case you just have to look at her and you know why she's mad. /endpost

I was just watching some videos and reading about that church this morning and it's seriously crazy lol. Made me laugh and cringe at the same time

If I can recall correctly, the only major aspect of our culture that people use to condemn certain sexual orientations is religion. If it weren't for religion, nobody would care.

Yep, I'm totes exaggerating the fact that I can't get married, adopt children, ensure job stability, walk down the street holding my boyfriend's hand, walk down the street period in some places, etc.

Humans fear what they don't understand. And for many heterosexuals, not understanding homosexuality will lead to an irrational hatred/fear of gays.

That coupled with the fact that people LOVE to place judgments, you have a society of judgmental, anti-gay jackasses. Fortunately, as time progresses, society is growing more tolerant.

Even though Religion may be a small part of it, but it's honestly because all these homophobes, not the ones who dislike them, but the ones who try and try so hard to change people's lifes, are unhappy with their own lives.

All these people see these gay people holding hands, and they are on their second marriage, or their first and they don't live the so called perfect life, then they see these two gay guys holding hands, running up and down a rainbow smiling with a pot of gold in their hands and they feel the need to feel better by hurting their own life because they have a pot of coal.

I know this is it too. Don't tell me it's not. If you seriously have the perfect marriage, the perfect girlfriend/boyfriend, the perfect job, the perfect family, the perfect house, the perfect [whatever] wouldn't you be paying attention to your own life? I know so. If I was happy, I wouldn't even be on ATRL, I wouldn't be on the computer. I would be making sure my significant other knows I love them, and caring for [whatever]

So if you are being abused by homophobes, just ask them. Why are you so miserable? Does your girlfriend beat you? Did she cheat on you? Did you get lied too? Did you lose your job? Did you get **** roaches in your brand new HDTV?

Tell them that you are sorry that you are happy and they aren't.

Cause honestly, out of all the things that fly out of the bible, being gay is at the top and personally it doesn't make sense why that is the only thing too. It's because it's a lifestyle and lifestyle = happiness (unhappiness) depending on how you live it.

I bet all these homophobes get jealous of gay relationships, hence they last longer / more happier.
