Sophie Ellis Bextor Up Against Britney For Cathy Dennis Time
Britney Spears may be set to return to the charts in 2006, but she's fighting over songs with home-grown singer Sophie Ellis Bextor.
Well, I love nothing more than divas at war - particularly when both girls are on a much-needed comeback trail. Both Brit and posh Soph want to use hit-maker Cathy Dennis, who penned Toxic for Ms Spears.
Soph wants Cathy to write a song for her next album - Sweet Music, after she apparently turned Toxic down. Who will win? My money's on Britney. Hit me baby, one more time!
Sophie Ellis Bextor did great music... but cammon' a worldwide star that has sold over 64 million albums or some european pop artist which sales are for less than 5 million...
Gimme a break, we can't even call this a "fight". I like some Sophie songs, but obviously she won't get any of Cathy Dennis songs until Britney says "I don't want it". ¬¬
Sophie's debut album "Read My Lips" was pretty big, selling like 3 Million worldwide without being released in the US. Her second album "Shoot From The Hip" (which I own) was a commercial flop but contained one of the greatest foreign sing I've ever heard, "Another Day". It should have been a single.
Cathy Dennis is one of the most musically diverse singers/writers/producers/dancers out there. The early 90's just wasn't her time. Though she had 4 Top 10 hits in the US including her best single "Just Another Dream" and one of the most popular songs of the 90's, "Touch Me (All Night Long)".
Wait, Sophie turned Toxic down? Does anyone realize how different that song would have been if she hadn't turned it down? Britney would have never gotten a Grammy, heh.
