You all DO realise that the reason these countries are homophobic in the first place is because of the United Kingdom of yesteryear? It's not like these societies are innately homophobic; it's a European homophobia that was impressed on these nations during the Imperialist era. To say that to pressure the removal of imperialist vestiges is itself imperialist is rather ironic

If this ends up pressuring some of these countries into removing their hardline laws against homosexuality (such as death penalty) that would be an important first step in ridding those societies of homophobia. Realistically, if you live in a country where society tells you that homoesxuality is something that should be punishable by death, you won't have much choice but to grow up with homophobic sentiments.
