I'd consider her an "icon" before I'd consider her a legend. Her impact on pop culture has been far greater than it has on music, for better or for worse.
And I agree with you. I would call her a Icon before legend. And it's no shade at all.
Because after all these years and all she's been through she's still the same real and humble person she was in 1999. She deserves respect for that alone. She's not stuck up her own twat like Lady Gaga and she's not fake and haughty like Beyoncé. She's never tried too hard. She just is. Every singer of today is trying to outdo 2001 Britney and they have all failed. There's no point calling her a nostalgia act when nobody's "relevance" of today will ever touch hers at her peak. I think its the longevity factor. To be relevant and still having hits after 13 years is not something easy to do, especially being a female pop artist, where there is always a hotter younger star.
