Success isn't only measured in record sales..
Adele is different from just about every artist out right now, when was the last time a phenomenon like this happened?
Her charting position clearly show that millions of people are in interested in HER music, in today's music where electro/dance is reigning..
Adele stands out, so many people try and they often fail..case in point, my fav (Joss) =))

I think this is the best answer to the question.
Britney, Beyonce, and Gaga could all be acceptable answers for the last decade in music. But in terms of this precise moment, Adele is the best choice.
Im gonna go with Gaga because everyone knows her tour is gonna be raking 100's of millions soon as it's announced. Success isn't just album and singles sales.
