It's really weird to me when people act like Adele was some unknown before Rolling in the Deep snuck up out of nowhere and practically defined 2011 in music.

There's a bandwagon, but y'all are exaggerating.

A lot of people in America got into Adele in 08 after her SNL performances on the same day Sarah Palin made her appearance. Even then "Chasing Pavements" was visible enough for her to have a sizable adult contemporary fanbase.

None of them have to mention her in the media.

Like roc la familia said, she got attention through her performance on SNL. But obviously, the industry was here for her BEFORE the success. She won two Grammys, awards voted by peers and people in the industry, before she got her first chart topper. That says a lot about how respected she is in the music industry. They worked with and spoke great things about her. Of course, she will get more attention now because she is the biggest success story of the year, but let's not act like EVERYONE is jumping on the bandwagon because you end up making yourself look foolish.

True. She's lucky not have her beauty adversely affected by her weight (though we've never seen her skinny, so we don't know if she would look the same or not).

And enough with the bandwagoning crap, people. This happens every time an artist blows up a little later on in their career, long time fans get snobby and look down on people who have the nerve to only discover them when they're popular. So stupid. You're not a better fan just because you've been aware of an artist when they weren't well known. And like others have pointed out, Adele wasn't exactly an indie nobody back in 2008.

Lord, I was not here for Adele's hair and fashion back then. I loved her first album, but I don't know. I wasn't invested enough to even consider myself a big fan. I did buy her album when it was first released in America, though.

Anyway, I never thought that Katy or anybody else was bandwagoning. They gained relevancy around the same time (same with Gaga), so of course they knew eachother and were cool.
