As expected, Disney is further raiding its vault for more 3D releases.
On Tuesday, the studio announced that it's theatrically re-releasing "Beauty and the Beast," "Finding Nemo," "Monsters, Inc." and "The Little Mermaid" in the format over the next two years.
"Beauty and the Beast" will go first, going wide Jan. 13; it will be followed by "Nemo" (Sept. 14), "Monsters, Inc." (Jan. 18, 2013) and "Little Mermaid" (Sept. 13, 2013).
In three weekend's of release, Disney's 3D re-release of "The Lion King" has grossed nearly $80 million domestically -- and more than $100 million globally. All of this revenue comes at low, low overhead for the studio, which had already converted the original "Lion King" print to 3D for the home video market (cost: under $10 million).
“Great stories and great characters are timeless, and at Disney we’re fortunate to have a treasure trove of both,” said Alan Bergman, president, The Walt Disney Studios. “We’re thrilled to give audiences of all ages the chance to experience these beloved tales in an exciting new way with 3D -- and in the case of younger generations, for the first time on the big screen.”
I don't get the point of do this, well I do get it, more money for disney, just that.
What is so bad when Disney wants to make their most iconic movies in better quality, so the new generation will come across those too and those who already know them can enjoy them again?
It's sad. A lot of young kids today don't know these movies anymore.
I don't think it's going to work out, tbh. Sure,TLK is doing great, but are people really nostalgic enough to continuously return to theatres to re-view films that have minor improvements?
It remind me of the Lisa Lionheart episode of the Simpsons. They all wanted Malibu Stacey just because she had a new hat, but it was the same doll. Think people.
They already released the Beauty and the Best here in 3D.
I'm really not here for re-releases, specially when you know there aren't any 3D effects in the movie.
But Disney is really clever money wise.

But Disney will make money off of people wanting what they've already seen.
