The View: Sherri + Barbara get into it about THE N WORD.
Quote:
Barbara Walters, Sherri Shepherd and Whoopi Goldberg had a tense discussion on Monday about the use of the n word.
The conversation was centered around the controversy surrounding Rick Perry and a hunting camp he owned. The camp's entrance contained a rock with the term "******head" on it for many years. The Washington Post broke the story of the rock, and presented conflicting narratives about Perry's knowledge of the rock and his efforts to get rid of it.
Goldberg used the n word (which was silenced throughout the conversation) first, while talking about Herman Cain's use of the word during a Sunday interview. It was when Walters used the word, though, that things got awkward. "It's very hard for me to say," she said. "...It gives me chills." Goldberg said it was useless to "pretend" that the word didn't exist. "Let's call it what it said!" she said.
It was here that Shepherd cut in. "When I heard you say it, it was fine," she told Goldberg. Turning to Walters, she continued, "I didn't like the way you said it." In explaining this, Shepherd used the word several more times.
I saw this. Sherri pisses me off with her hypocrisy and double standards sometimes, though. She's basically saying that it's completely fine for her and any black person to say it, but any white person that says it (even if it isn't meant as an insult and/or is being reported in a relevant news story) is completely wrong. The bottom line is that it shouldn't be used in the first place.
Their poor censor guy, though. They said it 945398459 times.
No one should say it. But if someone IS going to say it, it shouldn't be white people
+1
Do I get mad when a Black person says it? No, I just ignore it.
Do I get mad when a Latino says it? I SMH in my head, but that's about it.
Do I get mad when a Asian says it? No, I'll probably say "Lmao, why are you trying to act black, fool? You are not gangsta. "
Do I get mad when a White person says it? Yeah, I don't like it, and I make it known.
Is that fair? No. But it is what it is.
What I want to know is, do you guys think that the N word can end up where bitch is now?

You just explained everyone Black person's reaction when
hearing the n-word from other races. And that's just the way it is.
In a perfect world, I think the word, if used in a correct, non-offensive context like in the examples Whoopi was giving or whoever that politician was, should be able to be said freely (and I don't mean thrown around carelessly). There was no negative connotation when they said it, so I don't think anyone should be offended to be honest. Putting so much emphasis on the historical connotation of the word, especially when the person saying it means no harm (like Barbara), just makes it harder in my opinion.
That being said, if I know a word offends someone, I don't use it, because I know we don't live in a perfect world.
Sherri just sounded bitter. She acted like Barbara said "N*gga Shut Up! What he said was...".You talking bout how Barbara will never say it right? She was reading an article.

Let's remember gerls, the US government has changed its definition of white! Latinos are now white people too.

This is what got me. That's why I can't get with her. It's the way she makes her point that makes me cringe.
