Nobody said anything about living in the past. Of course Rihanna grows as a human but artistically she's going on a downward spiral. LOUD & WFL is an indication to that. Also no one was comparing her to Beyonce & Co. We just want GREAT & memorable music. Not these quick fixed "hit" songs were going to forget about time the next album drops. . Rihanna is a great artist. Everyone sees it in her but she's NOT living up to what she claims her standards are in her music.
Eh, I never viewed Loud and WFL as a downward spiral. A change in direction? Definitely. But not a downward spiral. If anything, it's the opposite. Sure, her contribution to singles and albums has been less frequent as of lately, but if every artist wrote/produced/directed their own album and videos, then songwriters, producers and directors would be out of their jobs. I know that you aren't comparing her to Beyoncé, but I was just putting it out there. I noticed it alot on ATRL. I notice that alot of people will say, "Man, she's going on her 6th album and she is nowhere near Beyoncé's level artistically". I understand your concerns as a stan, and I can relate at times. But I have no problem with what she's been doing lately. If she wants to release a dance album every year, that's fine with me. I will purchase and support anything and everything she releases.
OMG. Get over this. I'm over people crying from Rated R Rihanna back. Sis, she got ****ed the hell up. Her face was beat to a pulp by the man that she loved. Obviously her songs are going to be darker, more mature lyrically, and different than ever. But if you take out Rated R, Rihanna has been improving more and more. She started as a ghetto hood rat - matured to more dance Pop, and then experimented even more with Loud - S&M, Man Down, California King Bed, Only Girl and Whats My Name.
Nothings happening to her. Watch
We Found Love be the weakest on the album. If you were only here for Rated R Rihanna, then get over it
and dont stan anymore.

I second this. I'm really get tired of everyone insulting Rihanna's other work and praising Rated R. Yes, Rated R was fantastic. But you are not a stan if you only love and appreciate 1 of her albums and 1 of her eras. I understand being displeased, but DAMN. Loud was an album that was made to return Rihanna to the top after Rated R. Period, point blank. Clearly it's not going to be her best work. Saying that her music is on a downward spiral is purely delusional. Loud may have been a bump in the road, but for NOW, that's all it is. We've only heard ONE song from the sixth album, so we are in no position to be making assumptions like this.
Music of the Sun is gone. A Girl Like Me is gone. Good Girl Gone Bad is gone. Rated R is gone. Loud is gone. This needs to be understood.

Didn't Rih try to go down the somewhat "deep" road with "Man Down"?
And the fans didn't support that all.
Fans DID support it. However the general public didn't. You can't think put that type of pressure on just stans. There aren't enough of us in the world.
Because you can't? granted Rated-R is more "edgy" than GGGB but my point was that Rihanna herself couldn't FULLY articulate the musical direction and concept of the album because her typical reply was "It's more edgy" -- that album, like all of her albums is all Def Jam's doing. And LOUD (even though it's anything but) is no exception.
I actually can, but I'm not going to continue this discussion because I find it offensive that you would think the Rated R era was contrived. Rihanna's face was PUNCHED IN by the man she loved. She was betrayed, broken, and hurt. Yet you're going to claim Rated R was something that her label came up with? Really, how dare you.

I agree with both of you. Though, I'm guilty of being THAT stan that wanted the "old Rihanna" back and hoped for a new era to be similar to an old era. But I've realized that Rihanna isn't about that. We will never get any previous Rihanna eras back. THAT is why we need to appreciate the eras as they come, because we'll end up missing it after it's over with.
Rihanna fans, you keep missing the point. You think that Rihanna is actually there, somewhere in the world, thinking "OMG my fans deserve more music even though I keep giving them new music every day, let's go and record a new album in less than a week then release it two month later!!!". No.
Def Jam wants to milk more and more money of YOU . That's the main reason why they are releasing her sixth album. Also because they are DUMB.
