How do you feel about kids looking up to celebrities as role-models? Should an artist have to censor their craft because "idol-ship" comes with fame or is it up to the parents to shelter their kids from what is too "Rated-R" (no pun intended)?

No. Artists should never be role models.

The idea of a celebrity being a role model for children is extremely laughable to me.

If you think the people you see on TV and in the magazines should be where your children learn their life lessons from, then that says a whole lot more about you as a parent than it does about the celebrity.

Celebrities shouldn't be idolized. It's not their job to provide that for children. Celebrities didn’t sign up to be role models, they signed up to pursue their dreams of acting and singing. Nothing more. The real role models that children should look up to are the people who are out there doing things for the environment, politicians that are making changes, scientists who are making breakthroughs, anyone who is contributing to society by doing more than entertaining it.

I'm not understanding what's wrong for artists to be Role Models? Some are viewed just as that such as Beyonce & Britney.

You can't force someone to be a role model. That's just an easy cop-out for people who can't raise their kids right or don't want to take responsibility for their own actions.


Because at the end of the day, they're just entertainers?

So because you're a entertainer you can't be a role model for your fans? I guess.

Shouldn't the real role models be those that you can talk to on a daily basis and at least offer a person real advice and not someone who you watch in interviews and hope and pray they say what is right? Of course there are going to be those who are real role-models, but not everyone has that type of personality. Why can't people just be themselves? Why would you want your child to inspire to be anything or like anyone other than themselves? I don't get that logic.

At the end of the day, celebrities are just humans like any of us. We shouldn't be quick to make them super humans and expect them not to make mistakes because you don't want kids to follow their paths. You teach them right from wrong. You teach them the values and principles of life.

Britney Spears was considered an idol, but when she received so much public backlash from her breakdown what did parents tell their kids then? They probably quickly throw her to the wolves and called her a crazy bitch for going through something like all humans do.

It's not about what should be happening. The inevitable daily exposure to popular culture through television, music, film, magazines, etc. will most likely have some sort of impact on an individual regardless.

Beyoncé is my idol but do I take life lessons from her? Other than her drive and hard work, no. It's the parents job to provide the example.

My point was that celebrities aren't automatically in the position to be role models just because they happen to be in the public eye.

Oh, I'm not blaming kids for being impressionable, that is normal. But parents should take a hands-on role in teaching their children right from wrong and to not let themselves be so easily influenced by the world around them. And parents also need to deal with the fact that they can't shelter their kids from everything.

I think you should always look as yourself as the best role model

They will say those words eventually. So let them look up to who brings them happiness.

I love messy, decadent, ruined and infamous celebrities, so for me celebrities are not and shouldn't be role models

Beyonce is a great rolemodel!

I take advice from her whenever I can and just her leading by example is enough, so whenever something new comes up I ask myself "How has Beyonce handled this before?" (if she has) if not "What would Beyonce do?".

I don't always follow her advice, I still have my mischief but I can afford to have so since I'm not a big celeb like her.

celebrities are public figures so whether they want to be role models or not, people will still look up to them and be influenced in some way.
