well, Jewish people live all over the world but there are jewish who don't have any special identifications and you only know that his father or mother are jews which basiclly are just named jews and don't have any special customs, but there are groups in the world and mostly in Israel that Jewish means religious with all of the customs. I mean, I don't realy know what's going on in the US in this issue but for conclusion jew means were born to a mother or father that is jewish and if it's a boy he goes through circumcision too. there are also non-religious jews who basiclly do what i just wrote and live like a non-religiuos person at whole.
