The Fiasco That Was 2005: Robert's Top 50
I have to admit, this year was, (at least in my opinion) a crappy year. Besides the beginning of the year when Amerie finally got some of the praise she deserved, an Mariah returning with force, I was sorta disappointed. Therefore making this list was difficult because there were few songs that I absolutely loved. But combined with those that I liked a lot, I came up with 50 songs, many popular, some not, especially with the ATRL crowd. "I need a soldier!".
Let's kick this off and see how many times I post tonight.
50. Lyfe Jennings - "Must Be Nice"
This was a song that was bore into my head by my mother, so I denied my liking for it at first. But it grew on me, and in the end I felt it must be nice to have created a song like this. I guess spending time in prison can do some good.
49. Nelly Furtado - "Explode"
I think this song is utterly brilliant in it's storytelling, and I love the arrangement.
48. Fantasia - "Baby Mama"
Ok, Fantasia makes 3 appearances on the countdown, mostly because her album was one of the few this year that I liked, and it took the whole year for me to realize. This song was funny at first, but you know, "I got love for all my baby mamas!".
47. Letter Kills - "Hold My Heart"
Props to Nick for telling me about this song, it was a funny time for me over the summer transitioning between high school, and college, and a odd relationship I had over it wasn't exactly helping. This sort of expressed the feelings I had.
46. Fantasia - "Truth Is"
Again? Already? Fantasia? Yes it's her again. The 1st official single for her album, it was a dud to me at first, but when listening to her album later, it grew on me.
45. Joss Stone - "Spoiled"
Derek put me on to this, even though I guess I would have heard it eventually anyways. The crash part in the video was cool, and the song was a great listen for 2005.
More later!

44.112 -"U Already Know"
It was nice to see the boys of 112 back this year, but this was really the only song that lived up to the greatness of "Part III"
43.Gorillaz - "Feel Good Inc"
I was sorta late on this, but the "windmill, windmill for the land..." kinda got me. I hate that I never get to see the real band, but did anybody else notice cartoon buttcrack?
42.Dem Franchize Boys ft. Jermaine Dupri, Da Brat, & Bow Wow - "I Think They Like Me (Remix)"
Favorite conversation of the yr. : My 5 Yr. Old Cousin: "Robert, do you have a black card?" Me: "A what? (incredulously) Who do you know with a black card?" 5 Yr. Old Cousin: "Bow Wow"
41.Nelly ft. Paul Wall, Ali, & Gripp - "Grillz"
Yes, it's true. U see "Grillz" on my countdown. Pop/Rock, and such had a great presence on my countdown last year, and this year, rap makes a statement in the lower half of it.
40.Amerie - "Touch"
I STILL do not know why this wasn't big, but it flopped and no more singles from Amerie for the year. Plus, she was HOT AS HELL in the video.

39.Bobby Valentino - "Slow Down"
I was totally in love with Bobby for about....2 weeks, lol. Yeah, but this was the song that put him on the map, and let me to his pretty good cd.
38.Nivea ft. Youngbloodz - "Okay"
"Your hands all on my booty, two stepping in my Gucci"
37.Jermiane Dupri - "Gotta Getcha"
I loved the beat to this, but the video was odd, seeing Janet crawl around like a damn cat.
36.Mariah Carey - "It's Like That"
Ahh!!! I was SO EXCITED to hear this when it first came out, loved it at 1st listen, and knew she was gonna have a big year.
35.Kelly Clarkson - "Because Of You"
This might have been higher if it wasn't a single, because I completely wore it out when I first got the cd.
34.Green Day - "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams"
I never understood the lead singers pants....and those shoes.....I'm so gay.
33.Jimmy Eat World - "Work"
Mexi****, i.e. Randy, got me hooked onto this song. Nice melodies, and it had a speical meaning for me.
32.Rihanna - "Pon De Replay"
It was hilarious when everyone loved this song, and had NO CLUE who in the hell she was. Everyone just knew she counted to two.
31.Mariah Carey - "Shake It Off"
A lot of people say this is bland, and worthless, but you know what? I looove it! Gotta shake yall Mariah haters off. Lol, I won't ever say that again.
30.Mariah Carey - "Joyride"
Yeah, 3 appearances already for Ms. Carey. The 1st non-single to chart on the ****down, it's just a nice, slow tempo song, with a signature high note, and long note. My 3rd fav song from the original "TEOM"
Oh, I almost forgot, I'd like to thank Mario, Ke and Nick for comments. Love you people!

24.Chris Brown - "Run It"
This song was slightly annoying at first because let's face it, Chris sounds kinda girly. But it exploded, and I love to dance to it, and the video was cool. Nice to have a #1 single at 16 I bet.
23.Nina Sky - "In A Dream (Remix)
Something else that Randy put me up on, which I loved at 1st listen. Nice beat, and they harmonize nicely. Too bad it wasn't a single.
22.Brooke Valentine ft. Big Boi - "Girlfight"
This was purely a party song
21.Omarion - "I'm Tryna"
For some reason, this song stood out to me on his cd, mainly for the fact that I was trying not to like someone at school, and when I finally admitted it to myself , it was a little too late. Oh well?
20.Marques Houston - "All Because Of You"
Nice 1st single from Marques, first solo male to hit #1 on my countdown I think. Maybe it was omarion oh well.
19. Ashanti - "Don't Let Them"
I still stand by the idea that "Concrete Rose" is a masterpiece.
18.Kelly Clarkson - "Behind These Hazel Eyes"
Over 30 Days @ #1 on TRL, this song proved that "Breakaway" was a hit album.
17.Black Eyed Peas - "My Humps"
Ask anyone who saw me at a party this last semester, and this was my song. Kinda stupid in hindsight, but I still love it.
16.Lindsay Lohan - "Over"
I still don't quite get this whole video....and doesn't she say "Hova"??
15.Ray J - "One Wish"
This is where the line ends for males. Ray J earns honors as the highest charting male (without being featured on a song), with a song that sort of whines, whinnies like a horse, but I still love. Nice comeback I have to say. Wonder what his next single will be.

14.Mary J. Blige - "Be Without You"
Mary blasted back into the R&B scene with this killer track. In my opinion it's as spectacular as her classics, like "Not Gon' Cry", or "Reminisce". It's a great R&B song.
13.Destiny's Child - "Soldier"
LOL, I know some are saying this whole list is ******, and it's just completely over now that this is #13. It might be "ghetto" or "hood" and it wasn't "them", but who cares? The beat was hot, Lil' Wayne & T.I. sounded good, and Michelle sung the last and smallest part as usual. Aren't we all happy?
12.Fantasia - "Free Yourself"
The last and final appearance by Ms.Barrino on the countdown, I was feeling this almost church-like song. Girl got soul, lots of soul.
11.Missy Elliot ft. Ciara & Fat Man Scoop - "Lose Control"
Just missing out on the top 10, was the best rap/hip-hop of the year, with a nice, banging, almost 80's-like beat, and the dancing in the video was tight.

Lovely 14-11, although Soldier is last year and Lose Control is easily Missy's weakest first single ever?

10.Destiny's Child - "Cater 2 U"
Ok, at first I was one of the people who were like "What the hell?" But after a hot remix by Scott Storch that had background vocals out of this world (The girls and HAR-MO-NIZE), plus that magnificent concert I went to, I was in love with this.

9.Jennifer Lopez - "Get Right"
Ok, for some the horn was annoying, but for me, it was hot. Of course, never a great vocal performer, J.Ho pulled out a hot video, that had be jumping on the bed everytime it was on. Loved to play loud in my room, dancing.

8.Amerie - "1 Thing"
Finally! That was my thought when this came out and people took notice. For a week I was scared no one would since radio had still avoided it, but it was all over TRL, AND more importantly, BET. Finally earning Amerie some respect. Too bad it didn't continue with her next single. HOT DRUMS, plus HOT GIRL, plus HOT SINGING = HOT SONG, and the #8 song here.

Days On=25 non-consecutive days
Peak=1x11
7.Mariah Carey - "Don't Forget About Us"
Ok, maybe it's just WBT Part 2, but I still love it. Plus her and the guy look hot in the car in the video. Basically, I was just ecstatic that another Mariah song was so hot and well received. Plus, the end always gets me.

Days On=29 consecutive days (still on)

6.Ciara - "Oh"
Yeah, yeah, she can't sing. Yeah, yeah, she can't dance. Yeah, yeah, she was a man. Yoou know what? Who cares! The Black Britney was on fire this year, landing 2 songs in the top 6, both club bangers, that I enjoyed not only in clubs, but at home, in the car, or randomly outside on the corner. Play this, and I can re-enact the whole video for you. You can be the car.

5.Ashanti - "Don't Leave Me Alone"
R&B continues it's dominance over this year's countdown. This is my favorite song, off of my favorite "flop" of an album, "Concrete Rose." I rode to prom with this song blasting in my nice white Caddie. Too beautiful. Anyways, the beat is ridiculous, and Ashanti gives a nice vocal delivery.

4.Ciara ft. Missy Elliot - "1, 2, Step"
Cici, not only improves her last year ranking of #7, with "Goodies" once, but twice. This is sort of 2004, but whatever. I still do the 1,2 Step sometimes randomly. The beat was too infectious to ignore, and I was super mad that she didn't hit #1 with this. Obviously, Ciara was one the 2nd biggest artist of the year for me, and I hope her sophomore effort is as good as "Goodies".

3.Keyshia Cole - "Love"
Surprise, surprise. Everyone who has this cd, or has heard any of it, is or should be, in love with this song. It's like, a classic ballad, with a little ghetto R&b thrown in. Everyone who likes R&b at all, should definitely check this out.

Throwback Of The Year: N*Sync - "It's Gonna Be Me"

I usually give this to a song that, no matter how old, I was into all year, like it was brand ****ing new. This song managed to even reach #1 on my ****down twice. I also downloaded the video, to learn the dance all over again. I miss them.
Worst Songs Of The Year: Jessica Simpson - "These Boots Were Made For Walking" AND Eminem - "Ass Like That"
She's not even getting a ****ing picture. What the hell was this???! Her witch-like whispering over the stomping of cowboy boots? With redneck feet in them? Hell to the no. And Eminem, you totally lost ALL respect with this. ALL. I almost officially hate your ****ing guts. Screw that, I do. Stupid ass songs.
Songs 2 and 1 later tonight.

2.Kelly Clarkson - "Since U Been Gone"

Kind of surprising, but I was totally in love with this song all year. It's my favorite of her singles, and my favorite off the album. The video was sort of a let down, but, the song was pure pop/rock heaven. I wished it would've hit #1 on the HOT 100, it would've been totally deserved.

Ok, the #1 is just as obvious as last year, when DC3's "Lose My Breath" logged 15 days @ #1 on my countdown, and I talked about it all year. So this year, on her marvelous comeback, she also logged 15 days in the top spot, and here it is..
When you left

I lost a part of me,

It's still so hard to believe,

Come back baby please, cause
1.Mariah Carey - "We Belong Together"

Duh!! I mean, I was IN LOVE with this all year. I'm still in love with it. My favorite song off of the new album, I was in love at 1st listen. The video, was so diva-like, it was pathetically a good kind of bad. I mean, who has a ****ing wedding dress with that long of a train? Only Mariah. On a sad note, this is when she also revealed her new trend of long shirts, with high heels, and no pants. (i.e. Don't Forget About Us). But who cares? It was simple, I loved the little slurring thing in the second verse, I loved overreacting when playing the song out with my best friend, I even loved my joy or pain at every good or horrible live performance of it. Just the best song of the year that was, 2005.
