Agree, songwriting is so much more than just lyrics. Especially in a pop song, melody and hooks >> lyrics. TEOG has little lyrics but the lyrics that are in it are well written and quite pretty without being in your face that the song is about death (you could interpret the lyrics in many ways). Repetition doesn't necessarily make a song badly written, in the case of TEOG it works, the repetition makes a strong hook. And the melody of TEOG is amazing, especially the "Tonight yeah baby, tonight yeah baby" part of the verses but the chorus is really catchy too.
But I disagree with you on Bad Romance, I think it's a really well written song, so many hooks thrown in and it all works. Every part of that song is so memorable
