I'm going to go ahead and use knowledge on this subject I've gotten from being on the debate team (woooo) -- it's just plain
incorrect to call an unborn fetus a baby.
A fetus doesn't start having a heartbeat until 6 weeks after conception. It doesn't physically move (on its own) until 16 weeks after conception. Nerve endings (what would allow the fetus to
feel) don't form until about 28 weeks after conception.
Basically, you can't call a fetus a baby because it
isn't a person. There's a lot of controversy that surrounds when a fetus actually starts being a "baby," but it
certainly isn't before it has a heartbeat -- just think about it. It's pretty much a blob of multiplying cells until that point. Not human. Not baby. FETUS.
I'm ProChoice, though I think terminating a pregnancy should only be permitted until a certain period of the pregnancy (I don't know what that would be, and that in of itself is a whole different issue.) I agree with you however, in that abortion should without a doubt be allowed for those who have been impregnated from rape (at least I think that's what you're saying...)
Sorry for the outrageously long post. I get really serious about this stuff.
