The general public is so incorrect with almost everything about music though. But critics can be so bias.

I would say general public just because they are the ones who actually buy and listen to the music.

Some critics are often too full of themselves to judge music impartially, but those are just the bad ones.

That being said, though, in terms of finding music that stands the test of time, I think that the critics have a slighter edge over the general public. Just look at how so much stuff that the general public LOVED is totally derided and looked down upon not even 10 years later (the Macarena, Mambo #5, '80s new wave, bubblegum pop, Achy Breaky Heart, etc., etc., etc.). And I'm not even saying that these are bad songs or musical styles (I love '80s new wave and think that most of the stuff I mentioned is fun to listen to), but at the end of the day they're not seen as equivalent to good quality.

For the most part, critics just seem less likely to support something that will be made fun of in less than a decade... Still, people should just listen to what they like and forget about others.

Metacritic, 'cause it fuses both critics and general public. Besides, I critique an album on what the general public likes before myself, but I VALUE an album on how I respond. That's why some of my favorites aren't on a critics top list.

EDIT: I feel without critics, we'd be wasting our money on albums we won't even bother listening to... they, at least, provide a helpful ear.

I can't tell you how many albums I disliked that were critical juggernauts and loved there were critical failures.

Full Moon was one album I loved and still love from front to back but it has like a 60 on Metacritic. Who even looks at reviews when deciding to buy something? I don't think the average person does. Otherwise, Nickelback would be flopping to death.

General public. Critics hated Teenage Dream, except Firework. Firework really isn't all that good.
