The society of that country is at times nasty. They judge your intelligence solely base on whether you know how to speak English. And majority judge your social status on how light your skin color is (the lighter the more wealthy logic). I know this isn't just the Philippones but yeah.

No but my closest friends are and I've gone to the Philippines and they treated me like a queen and followed me around and had their mouths dropping when they heard me speak English. I know not all but some judge you as I stated on my OP and my friends 'warned' me prior to our trip. Beautiful country BTW .

Umm yeah so the American products for tanning are what? We have different trends babe. You should think about that. The skin tone thing is so yesterday here. Maybe in the early 00s but now we accept all nationalities and skin colors. We treat each other equally. Of course there will be stereotyping but you really can't get away from that right? Every country is like that since we have different cultures and now we (all races) have become very open minded with these things.

I guess my friends told me wrong. But majority of the population would prefer to be lighter in color....cause there's stereotypes that go with it. There's a reason why Miss Universe Philippine contestants try to speak English instead of seeking translator, cause their country men think it makes her more intelligent, so the pressure is on for her to deliver....and a lot of the times they don't and get bashed online by fellow Filipinos.

Gurl, your impression with most Filipinos is way exaggerated than what it seems. I understand though. First, yes, most Filipinos judge intellectual capacity based on how well communicate with he English medium, but that only applies if you're a Filipino as well. It's still absurd measurement but whatever. The fairness of your skin is NOT a status symbol here but rather a mere stereotype of perception of beauty.

You deleted a part of your comment where you claimed you were treated like a queen, gurl that's extreme hospitality (borders subservience). I do not approve this kind of attitude most of us contain but I enjoy it when I'm at somebody's house. It's not only you that were pampered that way but generally every visitors - local or foreigner or even blacks.

Actually, I don't wanna be white.. it's weird that you change skin color (imo). And Ms Universe contestants from the Philippines speak English in the pageant because English is a national language in the Philippines. We are the 3rd largest english speakers in the world (accdg to population percentage) just behind the US & UK. It's not a preference, it's a capability. These filipinos who bash other people online because of their english proficiency are really tasteless and they will receive 10X the backlash from other bloggers as well because most of us know that what he/she did wasn't right.
