The "New" Facebook for Dummies:
Because I've noticed people complaining about the new slightly different facebook features introduced yesterday, I've decided to put together a small tutorial to help those who claim they "can't get used to the new layout," or just those who don't really know what's different yet. Get educated below:

What's New?
1. Reformatted News Feed
2. Easily Identify "Top Stories"
3. Be notified when new posts have been made since you began viewing your feed.
4. Real-Time Friend Activity Ticker
Each of these will be described in more detail below:
1. Reformatted News Feed

When you pick up a newspaper after not reading it for a week, the front page quickly clues you into the most interesting stories. In the past, News Feed hasn't worked like that. Updates slide down in chronological order so it's tough to zero in on what matters most.
Now, News Feed will act more like your own personal newspaper. You won't have to worry about missing important stuff. All your news will be in a single stream with the most interesting stories featured at the top. If you haven't visited Facebook for a while, the first things you'll see are top photos and statuses posted while you've been away. They're marked with an easy-to-spot blue corner.

The previous "Top Stories" and "Most Recent" sections have been combined, and for truly "recent" updates, see the "ticker" feature, described in #4.
2. Easily Identify "Top Stories"

If you check Facebook more frequently, you'll see the most recent stories first. Photos will also be bigger and easier to enjoy while you're scrolling through.

Top Stories are now indicated by a gray marker in the top left corner of the post.
3. Be notified when new posts have been made since you began viewing your feed
4. Real-Time Friend Activity Ticker

News Feed often has a time lag. Usually when you're on Facebook, a lot of your friends are too. Until now, there hasn't been an easy way to see and chat with your friends about photos, articles, and other things they're posting in real-time. The new ticker helps you do just that.
Ticker shows you the same stuff you were already seeing on Facebook, but it brings your conversations to life by displaying updates instantaneously. Now when a friend comments, asks a question or shares something like a check in, you'll be able to join the conversation right away. Click on anything in ticker to see the full story and chime in – without losing your place.

This seems to be one of the features most people are complaining about, yet I personally find it incredibly useful. If you have too many friends, you might get annoyed if it's scrolling all the time, but it can be a great way to see and respond to posts without having to leave the page you're currently on. Is that such a bad thing? If it flashed all the time, that'd annoy me... but if you truly don't like it, you can make it smaller.
Hopefully this gives a little more insight as to why facebook decided they needed a slight facelift. If you're still fretting over the changes, give it some time. Perhaps you'll get used to it (as most of us have done with past updates to facebook). If you're considering deleting your profile because of the changes, I'm sorry... but I'm not here for melodramatic mayhem and foolishness!
