Agreed. I can think of nary a recent mainstream pop album that was a coherent piece of work rather than just a collection of singles intended to sell the album, and album fillers for the rest of the songs. But it doesn't explain why someone like Robyn, who made a great coherent piece of work with standout tracks that were singles doesn't experience the same success as other artists. She's been shoved down our throats by critics since her self-titled album and America is not biting and probably never will despite the online hype for great songs like Dancing on My Own and CYG.

Robyn's lack of success can be attributed to many things, but "reaction to critical hype" is not one of them.
1. Name the last Swedish act to make it big ANYWHERE as a pop star. You'd have to go back to Ace of Base's first album for that.
2. Her look. She's not traditionally pretty, she has a ... butcher style than most - and doesn't have the rough and tough Americanness of a Pink to offset it.
3. She's over 30. That's like over 75 in pop years.
Done, done, and done. All without resorting to things that can't be proven.
