Sabi, born, Jenice Dena Portlock is an American singer-songwriter from Los Angeles, California currently signed under Warner Bros Records. She used the singer for the hip hop group The Bangz until it disbanded in 2010 due to an injury from her co-performer Ella Ann. Sabi attempted to find success in The Bangz without her, but it did not last long. However, Warner Bros Records admired her charisma and her talent, and wanted her to stay on the label in pursuit of a solo career.
In 2011, Sabi found herself slowly rising as an up and coming artist in the music industry. She gained substantial amount of buzz from her appearance in the Britney Spears track "(Drop Dead) Beautiful," which was built up with the release of her first buzz single "Goodnight." Sabi has been other tracks such as the New Boyz song "Tough Kids" and Cobra Starship's lead single for their album "Night Shades" called "You Make Me Feel.." which has hit #1 in New Zealand, #8 in the United States, and #15 in Canada. In August 2011, Sabi has debuted her lead single, "Wild Heart," produced by the DJ Cirkut/AG production duo The Dream Machine. She is currently in the studio working on her debut album.

A singer, songwriter, and actress, Sabi is now getting her chance thanks to signing with Prescription Songs and Warner Bros. Records. Sabi is currently in the studio with Benny Blanco, Klas (from the Teady Bears), Diplo, Ammo, DJ Cirkut, The Cataracs and The Co-Stars cooking up the tracks that will appear on her debut album for Warner Bros. Records. Meanwhile, she is already attracting ‘Who’s that girl?’ buzz for her rap on “(Drop Dead) Beautiful” — a sizzling song on Britney Spears’ new album Femme Fatale. “I grew up watching Britney’s videos,” Sabi says. “It’s crazy to want to be a part of the music industry my entire life and then get the opportunity to be featured on a record by one of my idols.”
Executives at Warner Bros. Records loved Sabi’s talent and energy and wanted to continue the label’s relationship with her as a solo artist. Now she is pouring everything she has into working on her debut album, which she says will incorporate her love for pop, alternative rock, and urban music. “I’m a pop artist, but I want to bring some rawness and urban swagger to the table,” Sabi says. “I’m really inspired by artists like Lauryn Hill, Bat For Lashes, Florence and the Machine, and Lykke Li. They are strong women with a unique point of view who have something substantial to say. I want to be able to address real issues in my songs, but still keep it sounding fun. It’s okay to have party songs, but I don’t want to make cookie-cutter music. I’m looking forward to everyone hearing what I can do.”
She's already been featured on tracks by artists like New Boyz, Cobra Starship (on their song "You Make Me Feel") and Britney Spears (on her track "[Drop Dead] Beautiful"), and she's currently in the studio hard at work on her long-simmering solo LP, working with everyone from Benny Blanco and Diplo to the Cataracs, to name a few.
Sabi teased fans with her just-released track "Wild Heart." The Dream Machine-produced track is a club banger and pop fans are feeling the new discovery. "The response has been pretty good," she said. "I hope that people like my music, but I like it, so that's all I care about," she laughed.
With so much buzz building around the young star, she's aiming for an early 2012 album release date. "We're still trying to figure it out, but it's feeling like at the rate we're going, top of the year," she said, adding that she hopes her features have given her enough shine to launch her to the next level once the album drops.
Good question. But I actually was looking for the date Wild Heart a few minutes before I posted this, when I saw this, so my answer is... Why should it matter, sis?
