Britney didn't pass on Umberlla. The writers intended Umbrella for Britney with Britney in mind while writing the song but Larry placed Britney in rehab just in time they were about to present it to her for her new album at the time. MJB clearly passed on it though.

I think MJB was also supposed to sing another huge pop song I can't remember.
