Case-and-point: Natalia Kills.

But all these "unnecessary" personas are still Nicki so does that make Nicki unnecessary also? I'm not trying to twist your words I'm just trying to understand your logic!

Just because Nicki released ONE pop single and has had a very pop-friendly image (which, again, she had to have because of the pop fanbase she attracted with all those features), that does not mean she is a popstar utilizing hip-hop influences. She is very much a hip-hop star utilizing pop influences.

Read more carefully. I never said she was a pop star. I said she was becoming a "pop star" --
with "pop star" in quotations, implying she may not be as successful as a "pop act." And she
has released and been featured on many pop tracks: Super Bass, that David Guetta track,
that Will.I.Am track, Fly, etc... these are all for pop radio. And that's just the way it is. Just
because you're rapping, does not make it a "hip hop/R&B record."

Fly is considered pop. Almost everyone considers it pop. It delusion to think its otherwise just because she raps.
And obviously her DEBUT album wasnt pop, the girl did not have any major success outside of Urban as a solo artist when it was released. Her next album should be interesting though.

Nicki is still in her DEBUT era. You cannot judge yet what she is going to do and how everything is going to plan out. I swear, some of y'all think you can see the future or some ****.
|
And what exactly is that method, may I ask?

My point is that if Nicki were a total Gaga copy in image then she would be where Natalia is.

You can't say she's becoming a pop star when she's been doing pop features for over 2 years now but her album was still not a pop album. She's been doing pop music still because she has to cater to a pop fanbase. Does that not compute? She has no choice.

That new David Guetta track with her is an absolute abomination. I hope her next album goes back to her roots, since she has a solid fanbase now.

It's going to. THAT IS THE POINT.
Why doesn't anyone understand that the whole purpose behind Pink Friday most likely is/was to earn her a strong fanbase all across the board so she could make the kind of music she wanted to? She's doing what Gaga did.

Pink Friday is very poppy rap album though. Probably one of the poppiest rap albums I've heard in awhile. It actually took awhile to grow on me because I was expecting way more rapping and for her to go way harder than she did. It was almost to the point where she sang about as much as she rapped I don't even know what to call it. Rap? Hip-hop? Pop? It should be called Hip-Pop if anything.

Throwing on this mess of fashion helps her stand out from the Cymphoniques and Diamonds of Hip Hop.

No ****. When Gaga was first underground/indie and when she first started out she wasn't like the way she is today. What is so different about Nicki? Gaga used her outfits to grab attention and get herself more noticed. But when Nicki does it everyone act like it's some type of crime. That is ridiculous. She shouldn't be criticized for wanting to GROW as an artist.. How is her case any different from 99% of artist everywhere. Even Diamond & Lola don't dress the same as when they first started. If you wanna talk change. It's apart of being artist. Just because she's in Hip-Hop and now slowly switching to pop doesn't make it any different. Almost EVERY artist does it. That doesn't make her "sell out" as some people in this thread tried to put it.

We will see where Nicki will go with her next album, if there is like two hardcore raps on the album and the rest just bubblegum pop/rap ********. The arguments about experimentation are then clearly invalidated.

Natalia jacking off GaGa is not the reason she is unsuccessful. You don't hear her on radio, you don't see her on big shows, etc. That's why no one gives two ***** about her.
Nicki has a team that cares about and promotes her.

In an interview with www.Fashionista.com, Minaj talked about how she puts her clothes together:
“I just think to myself, I really don’t give a damn, I’m going to do what the hell I want, so this is like my dream look, my Harajuku dream look.”
