She had the whole "big fat girl who got cut from American Idol, but performed a showstopping, iconic song" factor going for her. She isn't that great of an actress, and she will not be winning anymore Oscars anytime soon.
I can't at some of you. Her performance in "Dreamgirls" is absolutely Oscar worthy. Her "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" is the best vocal performance of the whole decade

I think she is a very good actress hence I have no doubt that in the future she might win another Oscar, but I don't think she deserved it for Dreamgirls. Yes, she was amazing, but the other nominees >

Sex in the City - supporting role
Secret Life of Bees - one of the leads
Fragments - supporting role
Winnie - Lead actress
The Three Stooges - supporting role
Dreamgirls came out in 2006. Thats an average of one film a year.
I'm not gonna make any judgments as to whether she deserves to win an Oscar for a film that I've yet to see, but I do agree with people on this thread that her Oscar win for Dreamgirls wasn't deserved at all. OK performance at best, but nothing mind-blowing at all.

And how many of those films have received critical acclaim or been nominated for the industry's top honors?
No. She's really not that good of an actress. I'm still confused as to how she won for "Dreamgirls".
@ Terrence Howard's accent.
Jennifer was getting standing ovations in the theater during the film when she sang. That is the first time in film history that has happened. It was a musical. She out sang everyone in the film. Out performed everyone in the supporting actress catagory that year. There will be no re-writing of histrory on this subject, She was the only unanimous choose that year. Won every film award that year for supporting actress. No confusion just check the records.
