I don't understand why some people here are shading Jessie for not knowing her, she was asked what she thought of PJ winning the Mercury prize and she answered honestly that she isn't familiar with her music. She didn't state it in a shady manner, like "oh I don't know who she is, so therefore she is irrelevant". I never fault anyone for not knowing an artist, so long as they don't have a condescending attitude about it, like not being well-known means you're worth nothing. That's only when I assume that the person is just plain ignorant about music.
But even I haven't been aware of PJ's existence for long. The only reason I know who she is is because I've watched and read numerous interviews of Florence Welch where she constantly cites PJ as one of her favorite artists and inspirations. Otherwise, I'd be just as clueless about her as most people on here.

I can actually understand people not knowing who Tori is, especially if they're particularly young. Tori's heyday was in the early and mid 90s, the last time when alternative music was the mainstream, and also the same era when most of the active ATRLers were born. She hasn't had the same impact in the 00s, so unless people on here were raised with her music, I don't think they'll have much of a chance to know who she is.

And Pitbull and LMFAO have nothing to do with it though. What I was trying to say was if she's such an excellent musician and has (therefore) made as big of an impact as some of the other members made out, you'd think that more people here would be aware of her. I wasn't questioning her talent, seeing as I know next to nothing about it.
I get that people just assume that members on ATRL know nothing outside of the Top 10 on the billboard charts, but I don't really think that's the case. Mostly anyways. x)

But you pretty much did kind of question it when you basically said if she's such an excellent musician why isn't she more popular. That's implying that popularity = talent and vice-versa, when that is so not the case most of the time, especially these days. Perhaps the reason she's not as popular as she deserves to be is because her music isn't meant to appeal to the masses. She certainly can't help that. But that doesn't mean she's had no impact whatsoever. Impact as an artist goes beyond selling a **** ton of records.
