What is being argued in the article is 12 months is far too long. And it's impossible to prove who has had sex and who hasn't. Not to mention that it's very rare to find someone who hasn't had sex for a year. Furthermore, heterosexual individuals still do have, if not more, significant risk of infections.

The point is this 12-month thing is based on discriminating mentality, whether they know themselves that they are discriminating or not.

12 months screening is good enough cause gays are at a higher risk than the heteros. But I'm still afraid for a stranger's blood enter my bloodstream so I'm very careful not to meet any accidents. I'll only use my own blood through autotransfusion or my family's because I feel safe with them if ever I get any blood loss. Thank God they maybe sheepish and clueless as christians with their fear of God and the sanctity of marriage bs and all that but I'd rather have them instead, cause I know they're clean.

Exactly. This stupid ban only helps perpetuate the popular myth that HIV/AIDS is a gay disease, it doesn't really make the population as a whole much safer.

Good luck at finding a gay male who hasn't had sex in 12 months. So basically there is still a ban on gays giving blood, even if this is a step in the right direction.

Properly screened. All blood bags here are being screened, too. But still, some of them were positive for HIV. There's nothing wrong in being extra careful.
