When Speak now sold over 1mil, I kinda thought that it would be the last album ever to accomplish that. It hasn't even been a year later and 2 more albums have done it! Maybe it's a sign of the industry improving (I hope...)!!

Yeah I think that's all as far as the U.S. goes. In Japan I know that Hikaru Utada has had 2 albums with over 2 million in sales in the first week and a third holds the world-record with 3.1 million in a first week. Ayumi Hamasaki might have 1 or 2 as well. Outside of that, I'm clueless.

I'm not just talking about her single discounts. Her albums are discounted pretty sharply too. TD is half the price of BTW on iTunes right now. And it's been like that for multiple nonconsecutive weeks.

Both Katy & GaGa use discounts to reach sales goals or position goals, whether it be the 1st or 100th week of release. No pop girl hasn't used the tactic. So why belittle GaGa?
