Discussion: Let's talk about celibacy.

I was out last night, and something called my interest. The human being is a sexual animal. We love sex, we have a tendence to pursue loving and sexual relationships. It's on our DNA.

But then i started to think about people who live their lifes in celibacy, the ones who do it not because of religion, but for personal choice. The first thing who came to mind was Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory. He sees sex exclusively as a method of reproduction, and simply don't have interest in it.

So i want to know from you guys, is it possible for a person to live a normal life without having any loving and sexual relationships? Is that a really important part of our lifes?

Yeah, me too. So I cant really say, I know my sis has sex, and she can go months without it and still be happy. It's really not that important.

After that last horrible sex experience I've had. I think it's definitely time to be celibate. Sex is so overrated.

Physical love should be considered important in a person's life. It is possible to have a stable relationship, but not as much enjoyment in also including the physical loving between one another

But to answer, I do believe you can live a life without any sexual relationships. I just never met anyone who doesn't want any, actually I have but he was a teenager, so I doubt that it'll stay like that forever with him.

We do need relationships, but some people don't need a sexual relationship

I think people can attempt to be celibate but your body has sexual cravings that would be very hard to fight against, so, as HumanNature mentioned, it's very possible and almost probable that one would give into their desires.

Of course, it is possible.

1% of the population is asexual. Plus, straight/bi/gay people don't need sex to have a normal/healthy/balanced life.

At least I don't.

Concepts like celibacy are too simplistic in nature for me to wrap my head around. For example, I'm not sexually active at the moment primarily due to the fact that i prefer romantic relationships over random sex, but I'm also lacking in the desire to be in a relationship. And despite my situation, i never would consider myself celibate because if love or lust comes knocking at the door, I'd indulge that reality.

I think most people go through life with extended periods of sexual inactivity, but still don't consider themselves celibate. I've yet to meet a truly celibate person without a religious disposition...
