Plus you have to add extra weight to support both the mother who is giving a lot from her body to the baby's body and the growth of the baby. Secondly, when a woman has a girl she generally becomes a tank, when she has a boy, the weight is centred around the stomach. Thirdly, 30 pounds isn't major - it's 2 stone. It's a fair bit yes, but not tons and it's understandable for two or more bodies. I wouldn't suggest more then that obviously but in her case I doubt that she has neglectful doctors, with her money she should have good consultants and check ups on her health so I doubt she's in any danger. That said, the failure for Britney's doctor to tell her not to chemically colour/bleach her hair whilst pregnant was definitly reprehensible.
Why bring the country into a pregnancy issue? This isn't just excess weight because of pigging out or unhealthy food. The amount a pregnant woman gains is based mainly on how hungry she is, what and how much she eats and what sex of baby she is having as to where the fat spreads. Also, for all their love of genetically modified and fattening foods there is healthy food in America too - but if a woman craves something unhealthy when pregnant, then she's going to get it (hopefully). The onyl other reason I can think of for women seeming to be smaller to you based on country when they are pregnant is because of culture, perhaps in France pregnancy is no excuse for becoming 'too fat'? I'm not saying that's true but that's how you make it sound and the way it sounds from a number of people here too as well unfortunately but at least they didn't try to make it a country competition.

You didn't have to say so much
Most of pregnant women around me, and even my own mother gained 6 or 7 pounds, remaining very healthy!
I thought maybe it was because of the different culture... in America, people are fatest, that's just a fact. And when I hear someone saying gaining 7 pounds is not enough, whereas that's not what's said in my surrownding, I think it may be because of the different mentality (and I didn't say the American were wrong, or the French were perfect...the only thing's we don't have the same conception)

And yes I've heard gaining 30 pounds or more was dangerous for the baby and the mother.
But I'm not a doctor, that's for sure !
