Early performances of Y&I didn't do much for the song either, it requires a solid foundation of radio support before taking off, unless it is performed on a really huge show, like XF or something.

This is making me think of Britney's promo tour for Femme Fatale. Y'know how she performed Big Fat Bass, and it was supposed to be the 3rd single? Well, it did so poorly on the album release on itunes and even after the promo, and it hasn't been a single. I was just thinking maybe Hair could be similar to BFB. That's all.

Well, it got highest on the iTunes charts when the album was released, so they knew it could work because people wanted a(nother) different side of Gaga. The video did the song justice.

Highway Unicorn is among the least "preachy" songs. It's not all that cheesey to me, unless you count the mention of a unicorn or rainbow syrup.

I think it's definitely a little too controversial, although I think that's a pity, because it is an awesome song.
Hmm, Hair's structure is kind of... messy. Considering her team is on spot (but let Judas fail, one of her best songs :rip), I think they could actually make any song work that's on the album. I hope this is a good thing.
Bar GH, considering that's just too explicit and doesn't really go anywhere (thanks @ MrPeanut - his words) which is the best explanation, but it's a good song. Not filler or anything, but not single material. We'll see...
Nah, I don't blame you. The You and I video has been released and the VMA has passed... It's gonna be just chart watch from now on unless Gaga has other plans...
