5 things to watch for at VMAs
MTV’s Video Music Awards: Five Things to Watch For
While the headlines grabbed by MTV's annual Video Music Awards usually deal with the unexpected moments that pop up on the red carpet or during the telecast, one thing is for sure: The show always delivers a heaping serving of entertainment.
For this year's shindig, which airs Sunday at 9 pm, the guest list of performers and presenters is brimming over with A-list actors and musicians.
To help you sort through the music-filled melee, here is a rundown of who and what to watch for:
1. Beyoncé: The songstress is set to perform live and never fails to showcase her powerful pipes. Will pal Gwyneth Paltrow make a surprise appearance? Will husband Jay-Z drop in to deliver a rhyme? Either way, she's an act you don't want to miss.
2. Amy Winehouse Tribute: With the industry still reeling from the British singer's sudden and tragic death, the show is putting together a special commemoration of her talent. The legendary Tony Bennett, who had recorded a duet with Winehouse shortly before she passed away, will introduce the segment.
3. New Category: What is music if it doesn't mean something? This year’s show will feature its first "pro-social" category entitled "Best Video With A Message." The award will honor the video that carried the most powerful positive message of self-empowerment or best raised awareness about a key social issue. This year's nominees compose a diverse group: Lady Gaga, Pink, Katy Perry, Eminem featuring Rihanna, Taylor Swift, and Rise Against are all up for the new Moonman.
4. Bad Boys Return: With the memory of his hijacking of Taylor Swift's acceptance speech two years ago forever seared in our minds, Kanye West will always be a loose cannon. This year, with seven nominations, West has plenty of opportunities to steal the show. If he does misbehave, one potential target could be Adele, who ties him in amount of nominations, competes with him in two categories, and is up for awards against Beyonce and Katy Perry-- two of West's favorite ladies. Also taking the stage will be Chris Brown, who has slipped considerably down the public opinion totem polls since his debut at the 2007 VMAs. It will be interesting to see what he comes up with to try and win back some fans.
5: Adele: Speaking of Adele…she's making her debut VMA performance! While we don't expect to see her rolling around in a wedding dress (Madonna) or wearing a sequined body stocking (Britney), we're sure she's going to sing the roof off the place.

I'm only here for Bey and the Amy Winehouse Tribute and Adele. And of course GaGa, first and foremost. I'm expecting a great show!

Nothing but true tea being spilled.
Beyonce's performances are always iconic. She never disappoints, and Adele's powerhouse vocals slay.
