I felt it. And here I am in my vibrating computer chair like, "What the hell?" looking around for my cat thinking she must be doing it. Then, when I saw she wasn't there I just figured my neighbors downstairs were doing something that was making my apartment shake. I went straight back to watching Lion King 2 and thought nothing more of it. #Clueless

I thought someone was vacuuming upstairs or something or whatever but then a couple of picture frames fell so I ran the hell upstairs. No roof gon' fall on me while I do my summer assignments. Thank God it only lasted for like 30 seconds.

I felt it in Michigan. I was on the 3rd floor at my work building and everyone was swaying slightly for 10-20 seconds.

First we have Hurricane Irene and now an earthquake in the east coast. That is crazy. I heard the last time an earthquake happened at east coast was 200 years ago.

Earthquakes happen all the time - they're just too minor to be felt. It is a bit concerning because the USA is in no way prepared for larger earthquakes.

And yes, a 5.8 is very strong. For the unprepared US, yes it is a big one!
Sendai Japan gets magnitude 5.0s very regularly due to the 9.0 shock. I sat through 5 magnitude 5s, a 7 and a 6.3 that was really close to the apartment. I cannot get used to the shaking. It is scary.

I'm in Pennsylvania and I felt it, too. I was in class today and the room started shaking/rocking back and forth. No one said anything, so I didn't either. At the end of class a girl asked everyone if they felt it, and everyone said yes. I didn't say anything because I thought a bunch of other students were outside under this skywalk near the classroom shaking something, lol.

Anyway, it turns out everyone on campus felt it and it was felt throughout the surrounding areas. It knocked out a bunch of people's cellphone reception. The rocking actually felt kind of nice, lol.
