The manipulation for OG was very light at best. And download supression used to be extremely common until recently. That's hardly manipulation.

I don't see what's wrong with it. She's just playing the game. And it's just a record that nobody outside message board people will know about it.

And Rihanna has manipulated the charts more than pretty much all artists. Let's not forget that she ALWAYS use to repress her singles to guarantee jumps to #1. SOS, Umbrella, and Take A Bow all got to #1 that way. Repressing was fairly common, but she did it more often and more intensely (waited till airplay was high enough) than everybody else.

GaGa's 99 cent album thing is probably THE worst from the past year....

People need to get over it. The charts are just a game.

That wasn't chart manipulation. Even if we were to subtract those 400K+ sales and assume none of those people would have bought the album otherwise, it would have been number 1 regardless.

True, but I don't think download supression is quite like the remix trend. Almost everyone was doing download supression before last year when songs started being released digitally immediatley. I hated it & I'm glad artists have stopped using the method.

I just don't like the remix trend because it downgrades the quality of the song to me to get to a higher position. After I hear a horrible remix of a song, even the original doesn't sound as good as it used to me. The other methods to get to #1 don't downgrade the quality of the actual song.

It's not just manipulation, it's also deception. The deception is in saying that two different versions of one song are exactly the same version.

Billboard has lost credibility and Katy Perry's record company - including possibly Katy herself - have also lost credibility. She's going to suffer a huge backlash I'm afraid.

No...when Billboard makes a rule, past entries that could be affected, are taken out of consideration. It would be too tough to do, and completely unfair.
