Is impossible that statement was so deluded and surreal, not even Adele will sell 30 millions albums with 21 , if he meant records i can see it happening!

I mean, the album didn't really live up to my expectations in any sense, for me it's still very hard to swallow, and it's been like 3 months now. But I've just accepted it - it seems that many people really loved it, so it's OK. I have other things to listen to.

The point is: why can't she release a VERY good album after Born This Way? Trust me, it's way too early to say it's the END.

Gaga's downfall is Gaga herself. What goes on in Gaga's head is reflective of the music she puts out. She isn't Katy or Rihanna who's going to just go to Dr Luke or Stargate and ask for a hit and it will have nothing to do with her as a person/artist. And what's been going on in Gaga's head has been very disconcerting...I don't see her changing her train of thought about herself and her "art." So I think her subsequent records will suffer even more b/c she won't have massive eras like TF/TFM to boost them.

An album selling 30m today would be like selling 90m copies in the 80s-90s. No industry executive is that stupid.

I agree she wants to be a Legend, but desire alone will not earn her the status. Her next era needs to be more commercial. She needs big hits and she has to regain the aura she once had. When she first came out and spoke about her inspirations, studio 54 etc she had a sense of "cool" about her. Now she comes across as a loser, hence her appeal has narrowed so much.

That would be the most impressive album performance ever given current market conditions. It seems more likely that he was talking about total record sales from the era, if anything.

No sir, nope. It was a legitimate recorded interview with Troy. I'll try to dig it up.
Edit: Maybe he was talking about records. But he said "30 million shipments." I'm still gonna look.

Okay, I'd never seen that as a direct quote, but I'd be glad to hear the context.

She could put her ego aside and work with them if she took creative control. The blatant snobbery against Dr Luke is endless. He's the best at what he does, but he gets very little credit for it. I don't like Katy Perry, but I can see why she's had 5 #1s in a row. Her songs are very appealing to the public, commercial pop music at its best.

Right? It used to be cool to like her. She was fun, hip, fashionable. College students who roll their eyes at popstars liked her. You wanted to be friends with her and party with her. Now she's ugly and preachy and embarrassing.

I don't like Katy Perry either but I wasn't criticizing her, just stating a fact. I do enjoy the songs he makes for her.

It was an interview with The Wall Street Journal, no less.

I remember telling people about her months before she took off in the UK, nearly everyone was interested in her. She had that certain je ne sais quoi. It's something I don't think she'll ever be able to capture again. She'll probably continue down the path she's on and eventually become an underground act with a cult following.

Exactly. You and Celestial sit here endlessly blabbering about her being a product with a short shelf life, but here you are explaining how and why she is no longer that product. She evolved in a way that pissed you off but is necessary. She's a monster of the digital age, and she understands and embraces that more than you or Celestial, as fans of the friendly, mass-appealing, tricky chameleon of The Fame era, will ever be able to accept or sanction.

You can have it both ways. Avatar had critical and commercial appeal. You don't have to sacrifice one in order to satisfy the other. Up until now, she had the balance just right.

That's fine, I'm just saying Dr. Luke isn't exactly the prime example of that.

Wait, so being pretty and fun automatically makes you a product, while being ugly and preachy means you're an "evolving artist"?

I'm not bothered by the fact that she evolved. BR was evolution from JD and it was just fine. I'm bothered by how she evolved.
