Many have lost interest in her because of the gimmicks. GaGa used to be elusive because of all her theatrics, but now she just comes across as contrived and desperate. This is just another attention seeking ploy. Nobody is here for it. If this turns out to be true then everyone will be talking about her after the VMA's, but they won't be talking about her for the right reasons.
Her career is in decline because she hasn't delivered. Her album was good, she took risks with it... But then chose to release the most basic songs to attempt to sell it. It didn't work.
