From the newest Billboard Magazine talking about the music industry in Japan between 2010 and 2011:
There are several reasons for the resurgence of international repertoire. One is the popularity of Lady GaGa, whose album 'Born This Way' has moved 650,000 units of both domestic and imported imprints since its May 23rd release, according to Universal Music Japan.
Plus ORICON only tracks 90% of the music shops in Japan (in comparison to Soundscan's 95% in the U.S.), plus ORICON doesn't include digital sales in their numbers. So I believe the 650K units sold if Universal Music Japan has reported them!
