Mel C blasts 'sexual' Rihanna
Quote:
Mel C has blasted Rihanna for being too sexual in her videos and on stage.
The former Spice Girls singer - who has a two-year-old daughter Scarlet with boyfriend Thomas Starr - has grown increasingly concerned about "inappropriate" imagery in the music business and believes the 'California King Bed' hitmaker's behavior is too graphic for her younger fans.
In an interview with the Daily Mirror newspaper, she said: "People have to take some responsibility because we've got to a point where the over-sexualization of young children has gone too far. I think music is a big part of that. Women in music are extremely sexual and they have young fans. It is inappropriate.
"Rihanna has a responsibility and although culture's always changing, it's changed too much. It needs to be dealt with. It's reached saturation point, we owe it to our kids to protect them."
Mel believes Rihanna makes many of her X-rated artistic decisions - which have included her whipping reporters, dressing in a leather bikini and being tied up in her 'S&M' video, which was banned in 11 countries because of its sexual content - because she isn't a mother herself.
The 37-year-old singer - who is about to release her new solo album 'The Sea' - added: "I love Rihanna, I think she's a f***ing brilliant artist, with great songs, a great record and she looks fantastic ... but she's not a mum. Maybe if she becomes one she'll feel different. I hope so anyway."
Mel and her Spice Girls bandmates - Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell, Mel B and Emma Bunton - were criticized in the late 90s for being too sexual for their young fans, but the star insists they would always censor themselves if they felt something was wrong.
She said: "It's a long time ago since the Spice Girls were first together and we were criticized for being sexual. Yes we wore crop tops, look how much has changed, but we always sat down as a group and if somebody felt something was inappropriate for our young fans, we did something about it. I think that's something young people in the music industry today, like Rihanna, should do now."

She's right. Just because one is a Rihanna stan doesn't mean you can't agree to logic, does it?

Yes, Rihanna is a filthy **** and should sing children's music from now on as punishment. Get her, Mel!

Not really and Rihanna has commented on this before. It is up to the parent what a child sees and does not see, if a parent deems Rihannas videos and stage performances inappropriate, don't let the child see it. It is not Rihannas job to raise anyones children, her music is clearly not for children so she should not have to cater to them.

but children love her
children are the main fans of most pop girls actually, so Mel C has a point. But Rihanna is beautiful and classy so I don't see vulgarity in her acts.

I didn't know she had a kid or a boyfriend! I always thought she was gay.

I didn't actually find out she wasn't a lesbian until a couple of years ago. I always thought she was, too.
Anyway, why would her two year old son be listening to a Rihanna album? If she has a problem with Rihanna's lyrics, music, and image, then she can simply not play her music.

That is bollocks. You don't see a bunch of 10 year olds at a Rihanna concert, it is 14-25 year olds mostly. If you want family fun go see Taylor Swift. If a parent lets their kids watch S&M it is their own fault, Rihanna is CLEARLY not marketed at kids.

she is not marketed but children love pop artists, that is a fact. They catch very fast on them and sing along, etc. I did that too. They may not go to the concerts, but they are a core fanbase

No they aren't. Those kids do not have money or means to buy music and honestly what kind of parent is going to buy their child an album with something like S&M or Government Hooker on it? Yes kids sing along with the radio but that doesn't mean they buy the music. Regardless of that artists cannot tip toe around what every parent in america wants, the music industry would get very boring very fast. Rihanna is a popstar, she is not a Mother, she has never claimed to be a role model. I remain adament on the fact that Mel C is just whining, don't want your kids to watch it, don't let them. Simple. Rihanna is not going to worry about being a good influence on a 2 year old, she is young, sexy and rich. Would you?

No, i would not either. Still I can see her having a point because children do look up at popstars as role models.

Raise your mother****ing kids instead of relying on celebrities to do it for you. That is all.
