I think the US News list is more widely used / referenced.
I just checked US News. Definitely agree more than that one for more than just the reason my school jumped spots.
I was accepted to two top 20 schools on there but did not go due to me being scared to go so far at the last minute, and then I end up going to a school in the top 80.

My school is top five on both, but honestly, I think these lists are a bunch of crap. It's awfully difficult to quantify the quality of an institution's education—yet that's exactly what U.S. News and World Report and Forbes are trying to do, using statistics that unfortunately greatly favor private institutions over public ones (because they can offer much more financial aid and smaller class sizes). I wish people didn't care so much, because it's all a bunch of subjective ******** anyway.

This. Certain Americans are very competitive over which college is the "best" and in some circles quick to disapprove of any school seen to be inferior. It's odd.
But I will use both to evaluate my college choices this coming year.
Please don't! That really gives them a validity they shouldn't have. Choose your college by what has the best program, academic and extracurricular opportunities, and benefits for you, not based on some dumb measure of "reputation."
