I have to agree that this re-mix trend is a form of corruption. The blame lies squarely on the shoulders of Billboard magazine. Billboard is basically double-counting sales under the artist's song title even though the title may be split amongst different performers.
As a result of its double-counting, Billboard is going downhill fast as a respectable publication. It's no longer considered in high esteem in the industry. People are starting to pay far more attention to Itunes, for instance.
All I am gonna say, is that I'm glad my fave *cough Lady Gaga* doesn't need to remix to sell albums or singles, nor does Adele.... I guess that's what happens when you actually have talent
