I heard it was amazing.
After Burtons mess I really wasn't looking forward to this but I'll probably check it out today.
The cgi for the apes is Amazing though so with a good storyline it should be quite interesting.

How? I still think this movie is a bit stupid. Apes taking over the world? Maybe I will check it out.

I agree. The effects are amazing. More convincing than Avatar's imo.
Surprisingly for a big popcorn movie, the sci-fi story has an element of plausibility. Sort of like how Jurassic Park made you go, "this is a silly movie about dinosaurs run amok...but what if?"
The actors are all first-rate.
And most important of all, you form a real emotional connection with the main chimp. Which sounds crazy if you haven't seen it.
The trailers had me rolling my eyes but the movie is fantastic.

I would hope the apes would be taking over the word as the movie is called planet of the apes.

They don't really take over the world. They escape from the lab and take over the city.

I have to watch this movie. Movie critics rarely give out great reviews, especially with these types of movies.

Have watched it.
It's good, but the script didn't quite elevate enough like how the original series did with its sociology commentary.
It kind of stuck only on the animal rights issue, and lacking more powerful strength.
However, the story( and apes) was extremely humane, the CGI motion capture and action scenes was mind blowing.
Despite, the flaws above and some narrative problems, it's a really good overall.

It's definitely not the best film released this year, but it sure was a great movie.

I'm surprised. I couldn't stop rolling my eyes during the previews and have no plans on going to see it. Maybe I'll Redbox it when it comes out now I guess.
I guess the main reason I don't want to see it is because we all know how it ends...obviously the chimps win.

One of those movies that just feels...... magical. a true event film.
it fires perfectly on all cylinders. it never does too much, and always does just enough.
the first hour gives such a sense of wonderment. if ever a movie truly showed you the world through the eyes of a child, this is the one.
if ever a movie moved you to tears- or near them- over the relationship between a father and son, this is the one.
if ever a score hit all the right notes at all the right times, here you go.
answers? in droves. nothing was forced. everything is explained well and plausibly. questions people have are answered in ways only the most hardened cynic would complain about.
purists who wanted a rehash, go jump in a lake.
people who want to complain about the cgi in this one? fly a kite. learn to cook. play some video games. read a book. do anything but watch movies, because you don't deserve this movie. if ceaser isn't above reproach to you from that standpoint, you're impossible to satisfy. period.
it's an amazing movie from start to finish and it was the first "treat" i've had at the theater in ages. scrap that; crazy stupid love was a treat all it's own, but this was special. this was magical. this is why people love the movies, or why the should, or why they would if we got more like it. hats off to all involved.

Is it really necessary to watch the other movies before watching this one? Because I really don't feel like doing it...

It totally overperformed at the box office too:
Quote:
Fueled by great word of mouth, 20th Century Fox's Rise of the Planet of the Apes opened to $54 million at the domestic box office—$20 million more than the best forecast. The pic easily placed No. 1.
Overseas, the pic also exceeded expectations, grossing a stellar $23.4 million from 25 territories, including only four major markets, Australia, Spain, Russia and Taiwan.
"The effects have to be seen to be believed, and when movies do something that has never been seen before, audiences respond," Fox senior vice president of domestic distribution Chris Aronson said.
Heading into the weekend, tracking suggested that the movie—also starring James Franco, Frida Pinto and John Lithgow--would open to $30 million to $35 million, tops.
But the movie received an A- CinemaScore, in addition to garnering rave reviews, and is appealing to all age groups. More women than expected turned out, making up 46 percent of the audience, according to exit polls. The origins pic was down less than 2% from Friday to Saturday, speaking to the pic's buzz.
Rise of the Apes also is a big win for Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark’s Chernin Entertainment, since it’s the company’s first title. The movie, made for $93 million, was co-financed by Fox, Dune Entertainment and Ingenious.

I can't believe it cost less than a 100M.

There are some details reference from other movies , but not quite important
You can, and you will enjoy the prequel alone
