Only 28 country acts have topped Billboard 200 in 55 years
WOW. I was shocked reading this. I thought it was a lot more.

In terms of total chart-toppers by country acts on the Billboard 200, the number of men with No. 1s far outweighs the ladies and duos/groups. Fourteen dudes have led the list: Church, Tim McGraw, Garth Brooks, Glen Campbell, Johnny Cash, Kenny Chesney, Billy Ray Cyrus, Alan Jackson, Toby Keith, John Michael Montgomery, Kenny Rogers, Blake Shelton, George Strait and Keith Urban.
Our 10 leading ladies? Bobbie Gentry, Faith Hill, Reba McEntire, Olivia Newton-John, LeAnn Rimes, Linda Ronstadt, Taylor Swift, Shania Twain, Carrie Underwood and Gretchen Wilson. And finally, the four No. 1 duos/groups: Dixie Chicks, Lady Antebellum, Rascal Flatts and Sugarland.
The vast majority of country acts that topped the chart did so after the list began using SoundScan's point-of-sale data on the list dated May 25, 1991. Of the 28, only six notched a No. 1 in the so-called pre-SoundScan era (Cash, Gentry, Campbell, Ronstadt, Newton-John and Rogers).

They're unbothered. It's less expensive for them to blow up the country charts.

The only one that comes to mind right away for me is Elvis Presley.
...and apparently "Inside Your Heaven" by Carrie Underwood hit #1? I don't even know which song that is.

I know I'm Already There - Lonestar peaked at #1.. & there was a Dolly Parton song that peaked at #1..
+Inside Your Heaven by Carrie Underwood debuted at #1 but I'm not sure if it counts as a #1..
by a country artist since this is kinda popish.

Not exactly Billboard 200, but the Country BB chart is mad strict. I followed the country charts for the first time following "Don't You Wanna Stay" and learned some of the dumb rules country has. It's becoming uncommon for a song to be #1 for more than 2 weeks. There were 29 #1 songs in 2010 (in Billboard), so the average time a song stayed at #1 was 1.8 weeks. Found these BB rules for country on Pulse:
1) A song will remain on the chart as long as it's in the top 10 in audience and spins. Even if it's falling fast, it's protected as long as it's in the top 10
2) If a song is 21 weeks or older, and is below #10, it can go recurrent if it's losing audience. But Billboard has the right to give a song a "grace" week if the drop is only a small one, and BB can decide what "small" means. Some weeks it could be 400k, sometimes they pull if if it's down 200k, but usually they're somewhat consistent.
3) If a song is 20 weeks or younger, it can be removed but not until it's dropped for 3 straight weeks, and of course it has to be below #10 by the 3rd negative week.

Let's see...I know of a couple for sure. "Lady" by Kenny Rogers, "Islands in the Stream" by Rogers and Dolly Parton, "9 to 5" by Parton, the aforementioned "Inside Your Heaven" and "Amazed"...and quite a few songs in the early days of the Hot 100. I can't think of too many more at the moment.

Wow that's shocking i'm so pressed "Need You Know" plus a couple of other recent Top 10 country songs were so close to being #1 but could never do it.

All these songs were so close to hit #1 on the Hot 100, but they peaked at #2:
You're Still The One - Shania Twain
Breathe - Faith Hill
How Do I Live - LeAnn Rimes
Need You Now - Lady Antebellum
You Belong With Me - Taylor Swift

I'm still coping with the fact Cowboy Casanova peaked at #11..
.. such a country masterpiece & didn't even get the recognition she deserved.
I'm still hoping Carrie will get her 2nd #1 atop the Billboard Hot 100 with her next album!

I was hoping Luke Bryan to be #1 next week, but it won't happen with Jay-Z & Kanye West's album being released next week too.
