Well I don't consider a #1 album exposure simply because seeing that an album is #1 isn't going to make me want to buy it or listen to it.

Definitely will for other people. People are very much influenced by others. If you see an album that is number 1 on the Billboard 200, and say number 5, wouldn't you most likely think the number 1 album is better because it has a higher peak, meaning more people chose that over the number 5? Simple

Well that was a long time ago, but I can definitely agree with that. Britney was never a singles artist, so her albums definitely made her the star she is.

But I think singles are definitely what give exposure now, not peak positions. For example, Katy Perry is a HUGE star, not because of her number 1 album, but instead the massive single success she's had this era. To me, a. #1 is a bragging right, and that's it, a very nice bragging right, but not much more.

In most cases, that is true. You are more likely to remember that Britney Spears had her first album hit number 1 than it selling 126K (i think) the opening week. Unless your album has extreme sales (good or bad), the number 1 album will prevail. But if we were to talk cut and dry, sales vs peak, it'll be much harder to do because sales are diminishing and peaks are becoming more important. If we add in other factors, of course peaks because it adds to everything an artist has on the musical front.

True, singles do give more exposure in the end than albums. But album peaks do give more exposure (in most cases) than album sales

@RatedG Your logic of "someone's going hear on TV or read an article that says the album went number one and then automatically be more memorable to the person" doesn't make sense.

Almost every album by Pop gorls are said to be number 1. They're not gonna write in big print "Get the Number 2 Album LOUD by Rihanna". Even singles for that matter. If your single goes top 5 in a given area. Promoters, VJ's, DJ's and the entire world is gonna refer to it as a number one smash.

Only stan sites/fanatic sites would do that. Respected sites like Billboard, Rolling Stones, and maybe MTV () would be giving out the true tea

That is pretty much bollocks and GOLD was a greatest hits compilation so...not a studio album.
