False. S&M didn't need that hard of a push to go number one, it probably would have done it if even just the J.Cole Remix had been put on iTunes.

In this case the Remix feature was Britney, so technically Britney did.

It was BRITNEY who contributed HER vocals to the song, making HER fans interested in buying the remix. So yes britney did make s&m go #1, i dont even understand why this is up for debate.

I don't think people remember how close S&M was to NOT being #1. ET was right on its tail. It all came down to how much more the remix of S&M sold than ET's remix. Britney definitely did give Rihanna the #1. Had the remix been with someone else (Kesha, Katy) we don't know that the same strong fanbase would've been there to frontload the sales. If I remember correctly it was literally like 20-30K sales that made the diffference and gave S&M the number one. I don't think a remix with someone else would've given us those extra 20-30K copies.

You do realize to the people saying it wasn't Britney fan's. Many people were complaining about the remix because of Britney's vocal's and said they wouldn't buy it, so it wasn't the most favorable remix. And kesha would not make it go to number one. She couldn't even make TTWE go to number one which was a song she wrote. Katy maybe she would have gave her a 1# though. Even the idea of the remix in general alone wouldn't get everyone to buy it since people didn't like Britney on it nor her vocal's. So Britney fan's did have a big part in getting it to 1#.

Ummm. S&M was not ready to plummet, it was very stable in sales, but it didn't have that boost to make it #1. It was actually a VERY successful single, which is why I think the remix was done, to get it to number 1, to get it in the history books, which wouldn't have happened otherwise.
