A BASEBALL fan is saved from a terrifying 20ft drop — just days after another man plunged to his death making a catch in the stands.

American Keith Carmickle was grabbed by pals after plunging head first over a barrier at a Major League game in Phoenix, Arizona, last night.

Shocked fans looked on in horror as the man went to catch a ball, slipped from a table and went over the railings, before being hauled to safety by friends and family.

The close call came on the same day as a memorial service was being held for 39-year-old Shannon Stone, a fan who fell to his death at a Texas Rangers game last week.

Recalling the moment he was left hanging perilously over the edge, Mr Carmickle, of Kingman, Arizona, said: "I thought: I've lived a good life."

He added: "I stepped up on the table, I missed the ball by two or three feet and went over."

A pal who helped with the rescue said: "I grabbed his legs and his brother grabbed his arms.

"When he went over the ledge, we pulled him back. He wasn't going down, I was holding on."

Am I the only one that finds it sick that someone is trying to take pictures of him while he's potentially almost going to die...? I wonder if he would have continued snapping if he did plunge down.

They are going to have to put up nets after two incidents in a single week.

I agree. People just never learn. Just looking at the pictures, him on his bare feet, on the table... I would be way too chicken to do that.

It was probably going to happen after the tragedy in Texas anyway, but this should put interest in nets over the top.

One silver lining has now emerged from that same Texas tragedy: His buddies were quickly there to make sure the man did not (potentially) fall to his death. This doesn't happen (especially not so quickly) without what happened in Texas.

The stadiums need to take responsibility though, or at least show awareness. If someone else dies or almost dies from this again...

This guy really was playing with death here, he's so lucky that he had amazing friends who saved him or his ass would have been broken.

They shouldn't allow people sitting that close to attempt to catch an oncoming ball. It's privelege enough to sit closer than everyone else. Let the ones sitting farther back, in safer seats, try to catch the ball. They could use the souvenir since they couldn't see as well as the people in the front row(s) anyway.
