So, if today's audiences are not familiar with Thriller as a whole, then they SHOULD be familiar with some of the hit songs from that album. And it's really no excuse given that people spend all day long on this POP forum and argue back and forth about pop stats and such by their favorite diva but do not know much about the most popular album of all-time. Something IS wrong if people on this forum are not at least familiar with the music. Now if they don't appreciate it, then that's something totally different.

While Michael does get recurrent airplay it's still a different case and a different feeling when talking about music you grew up with and music that you only became familiar because of the singer's legacy. My younger sister will probably never appreciate Power Rangers or Pokemon and I don't give a damn about Jonas Brothers and ICarly either.
Familiarity and First hand experience are 2 different things. When you hear Katy songs 10x a day, and all her singles get like what.. 13,000 spins each, then it's not surprising that you'll be at the very least, curious enough to listen to a Katy Perry album. Not saying those from the older generation are entitled to vote for Thriller, not saying those from the younger generations will vote for Katy, but it's still a factor.
