Finally someone gets this!

Ah I see. Well everyone always says that Bey has 16 Grammys when introducing her so wow she really did pass him up. I can't believe I missed this. I'm a bad stan.

Mhmm which is why my preds again for AOTY are:
Adele "21" (Contemp. Pop)
Alison Krauss or another country album (Country)
Beyonce "4" (Contemp. R&B)
Bon Iver or another rock act/vet (Rock)
Kanye West "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" or "Watch the Throne" with Jay-Z (if out in time) (Rap)
What do u think?

Hi guys.
This is my first ever post, but I have been reading this thread for a while.
There has been alot of talk about AOTY, but I have a questions about ROTY/SOTY:
Being an Adele fan, I obviously want her to take a triple nomination in the general field. Considering the success of RITD, I think it has a chance at both ROTY and SOTY. However, SLY has been extremely successful overseas (#1 UK, Ireland, Europe, Australia) and I imagine it will begin to impact US radio soon and will be hyped as the follow up to one of this year's most successful singles. My question is:
Does anyone think SLY might affect Adele's total nominations? I see four possible outcomes:
a) RITD and SLY take one GF category each, ala SL and Halo.
b) SLY does not gain the success of RITD, and RITD takes both
c) SLY becomes successful, and ousts RITD in both categories
d) SLY and RITD are BOTH submitted in BOTH categories, and the votes split and Adele loses both GF nods (but keeps AOTY)
OR, a fifth but EXTREMELY unlikely event (and I'm not even sure if it is allowed under grammy rules)
e) Adele pulls off two noms in the same GF category
What does everyone think about these possibilities? E would be ideal, but obviously EXTREMELY unlikely, a/b/c would all be great for her, and I hope D doesn't occur because it really would be a shame to see two of this year's best songs snubbed.
Does anyone think there might be another outcome here?

^ "Set Fire To The Rain" is the next single in US, which would ''leave time'' for "Someone Like You" to be released after the deadline = being elegible for the Grammys 2013. That way, "Rolling In The Deep" can be nominated for both Song and Record this year with possible wins in both categories.

"Set Fire to the Rain" has not been confirmed as the next single. "Someone Like You" is looking like the next single.
And I really hope Columbia is smart enough to submit only the biggest hit that was covered by everyone and their mama - "Rolling in the Deep." That is the smartest thing to do.

Thanks for that Ioghen, I didn't realise SFTTR was tipped to be the next single. I absolutely love that song as well, but it doesn't have the same impact on people as SLY. I live in Aus and SLY has been #1 here for two weeks and is showing no signs of slowing down.
So, in a perfect world (my perfect world anyway), RITD will take both ROTY and SOTY, and SLY will be released after the deadline and then take both ROTY and SOTY 2013.
Anyone think that SFTTR could be considered in the rock category? (As obviously Adele would submit RITD to pop). It might take a bit of an imagination stretch, but is there a possibility it could get nominated? It is only slightly less rocky than Alanis Morissette' Jagged Little Pill, who had extreme success in the Rock Field.
It will be very interesting to see what happens...
Does anyone actually know if one artist can have more than one nomination in a GF category?? Just out of interest...

There's pretty much no way SFTTR would be submitted to rock...or to anything for that matter, as it's NOT a single (yet). And no, you can't have more than one nod in each category.

Oh ok. Does that just go for GF or for everything? Because Colbie Caillat was double nominated in Best Pop Collab for Breathe and Lucky in the same year. Is this because being a featured artist doesn't count?

Non-singles are allowed to contend. Also, there have been situations where an artist was nominated twice in one category in the general field. It hasn't happened since 1995 when Elton John and Tim Rice were nominated twice in SOTY. It hasn't happened since the induction of the Blue Ribbon Panel.
Adele's label should just stick with the song that everyone knows best - "Rolling in the Deep."
Here is how I would submit her:
Album of the Year - 21
Record of the Year - "Rolling in the Deep"
Song of the Year - "Rolling in the Deep"
Best Pop Solo Performance - "Rolling in the Deep"
Best Pop Vocal Album - 21
Best Short Form Music Video - "Rolling in the Deep"
There is no need to be greedy and submit random songs to different categories. If the label submits this way, she could pick up 5-6 nominations. These nominations are definitely reachable. Her label could submit SLY to ROTY and SOTY without worrying about vote-splitting because the BRP picks those nominees in the general field. However, I would NOT submit two tracks to Pop Solo because there is a possibility of a vote-split, though many have been able to overcome that. "Rolling in the Deep" is basically Adele's Grammy song. I can't see the label messing that up. That song was HUGE and ubiquitous here. Now if "Someone Like You" becomes big, then that's something else, but I'd stick to RITD in every possible category without a doubt.

It's totally possible in collaboration categories, but I remember that Michael Jackson was nominated for Song of The Year for both "Billie Jean" and "Beat It"; I'm not completely sure if it's still possible though..

In solo performance, only one song by an artist is allowed. In something like group or song, more than one song is allowed.

And Bruno Mars was nominated twice in ROTY this past year - featured artist on "Nothin' On You" and a producer on "**** You." But this is a different situation.

Labels usually don't even bother submitting non-singles. The only time I can remember was Beyonce two years ago? She was submitted in like, 500,000 categories. The most comical one...

Label submits non-singles all the time. They usually leave the singles to the general field, but the small categories are usually filled with non-singles, at least the submission lists. "Dance in the Dark," for example, was not even a single, yet it was nominated for Best Dance Recording.
Beyonce's label is pretty infamous for submitting tracks all over the place. Last year her label submitted "Fever" and "Halo" (Live) to Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, landing a nomination for the latter. The R&B field is another place where non-singles clutter the categories.

You're totally right. I guess that cringe-worthy Bey submission just stuck with me.

I don't understand how they can justify nominating the same song in the same category by the same person two years in a row. Is it possible to just pick a song and continue to perform that song live and submit each live performance every single year in the same category?

If Beyonce is getting a nod for 4, Gaga is totally getting one for BTW. Inevitable.
