These are recent examples of only one woman or group of women being nominated for album of the year, and 2007 was dominated by females (Amy, Rihanna, Nelly, Fergie, so on and so forth). It's not unreasonable to think the males will fill up 4/5 spots in AOTY.
I don't think any of those years rivaled the female domination we're seeing now, though I guess I won't be surprised if only one female (Adele) is nominated.
And I'm glad someone else mentioned Cee Lo. I think people are sleeping on him, and I wouldn't at all be surprised if he picked up a AOTY nom.
"Rolling in the Deep" will be represented in the general field. They rarely ever snub the biggest hit of the year. The surprises will come from elsewhere.

Now now Acey u two pop albums in one category? Tsk tsk how can u forget a country slot? I would replace GaGa wit Alison.
If any country act is going to get a nomination in this field it's Gillian Welch. Don't sleep on her album.
But this is going to be such a heated race to even get a nomination this year! There are a lot of strong nominees. It says a lot that RHCP, Foo Fighters, Coldplay and Radiohead could (and very well may) get snubbed in the AOTY category.
They won't nominate 4 for AOTY. It got good reviews, but nothing amazing and the commercial success is lacking.
Moreover, there is so much competition this year. ADELE is a shoe-in, Kanye's album was insanely acclaimed, Coldplay are favorites, Radiohead, Allison Krause, Bon Iver, and Taylor Swift's album was acclaimed and HUGE commercially. Oh and GaGa might too just because of all the hype she's had this year, but I see her missing out too.
It seems like everyone chose to release an album this year. There will be tons of snubs. I can't wait.
