I think it's probably Dr. Luke's best work; a shame it was blocked.
My favorite quote from a critical review of it:
Quote:
manufactured pop need not be a bad thing – if the manufacturing is good enough

I think you guys are not understand the point,
Yes those songs sold more, but will they be remembered as much? I don't think so. Some of those songs came and went, Cali gurls yes and firework, but E.T? Hell naw
They sold more than BTW but they didn't have the same impact as it, its what makes Lady Gaga stand out from the other girls. Its not the success, its the experience.

Forgettable.

In what way is this like MATM? MATM was hardly a defining song for Britney. Hell, I don't even know what album that song was on. As I said BTW is the song that defines this era for her, so it will be remembered for that reason.

Last Friday Night is an average song... so many like it, like "Just Dance", "Please Don't Stop the Music" and so on.

You don't know because it was overshadowed by the more successful, more defining and generally superior "Toxic."

But how do you measure impact?. Impact is very subjective. In my experience Firework has had a huuge impact, whenever I go to a club, the gays scream to Firework as much as to BTW

And BTW is one for Gaga?
You guys are confusing the success & impact of the song with the song's HYPE. That was something that has everyone curious, everyone was waiting for this "new anthem", but the song itself remembered in the future? "No man"
As Robyn said himself

Was the most anticipated music event in years.

Do you think it has the numbers/success, etc to be considered as such?
She failed, period.

Well no "true" way to measure such thing and specially so early on. We will see when the awards come in and praise in the future. Of-course this is only my opinion...
Anyways, don't want to clog this thread with this much more

By whom? By her fans? Maybe. But by the general populace? Considering the song has pretty much already dropped off the cultural radar, I would say that it doesn't look promising.

And you're confusing success and numbers (which the song has, anyway, though not on par with her most successful singles) with recognition. A song does not need to be the most successful song ever or even the most successful (charts/sales) song of that person's career to be remembered, it just needs to leave some sort of last impression (positive or negative) for one reason or another. I can provide several examples of songs that are remembered despite not being the biggest chart hits for that artist, if I must.
I will repeat it again: the song will be remembered because it is the defining song of this era for her. If Gaga has a short career, it'll be the song that marked the beginning of the end. If she has a long career, it'll be the song that moved her away from pure electropop. Either way, it's always going to be regarded as an important part of her discography.
But I'll end this here, because we are officially off-topic.

The most anticipated song in years not being played after just 3 - 4 months? Impossible

If it was just something that had everyone curious it would fall off the charts just like Judas. the song is still no. 30 on pop radio and it's still being played everywhere (Z100 are actually playing it more than the Edge currently)

What's going on in here? Katy vs. GaGa or GaGa vs. GaGa
This iTUNES thread is going out of track, and if Ace saw this, it will be immediately closed
So guys, just stop it or go somewhere else to discuss, not here !!!
Btw, Dirt Rock Anthem is about to pass The Edge of Glory on iTunes.....

Everyone acts like it didn't completely overshadow all of the other music that was out and obliterate all the other songs on the Hot 100 upon release. Everyone forgets that it completely obliterated Hold It Against Me's spin records set just a few weeks before. Add that to the list of controversy is started. Everyone forgets that all everyone did for weeks after that song came out was complain about how she ripped off Madonna or this and that about the song.
Like it or not, it completely stole the attention of the music scene, for better or for worse, immediately upon release. Say all you want about her fans being the only ones buying it or about the song sucking, but it completely dwarfed the other releases and was the most anticipated music event in years.

when people thinks of gaga the first thing that comes to their head is "po-po-poker face" or "ra ra o ma ma, roma roma ma ah"
that's the answer

"Cultural radar" because she isn't seen performing it in the US?
Asia is in all time high on Lady gaga as we speak, Weird Al just released "Perform This Way" which is a parody of Born this Way(which he just performed on the view). To say its virtually off the radar is false.
Perform This Way
(on Itunes now, gogo buy!)

Haha yeah having such kind of discussion on the day a cover of the song was performed on a huge show is kind of ironic. back on topic:
56. Born This Way (single)
album up to no. 12
