Like they were big hits at the time but they would have been bigger now (or anytime in the past two years) in comparison to then considering the huge shift in pop music?
Take for example:
A very big hit in 2005 but most likely would have been bigger now (2009-2011) in comparison to back in 2005. A song that samples Kraftwerk being played on Urban radio back then? Madness. Ciara was an innovator, y'all.
I've actually thought before that I'm A Slave 4 U was before it's time in some ways. I was 12 when it came out and I didn't like it at all, but now it's one of my favorite Britney songs and one of my favorite songs period. It's still amazing and I do believe it would've done even better if it had been released just a couple of years ago.
I also remember I thought it was so silly with how they had spelled Slave for you, but nowadays so many songs are spelled like that and I think nothing of it. The song was ahead with that too in a way.
"Gimme More" was definitely ahead of its time in a way.... it came at a time when the Timbaland sound was just ending and the electro pop scene was still a year to come (with "Just Dance" starting to gain traction in late 2008).
Avril Lavigne's GIRLFRIEND signaled the arrival of the cutesy/girly/bratty Ke$ha - and to a lesser extent (it's there in songs like TGIF) Katy - sound.
Let me correct that for you: Missy was, is and always will be an innovator. The Cookbook may have been her least adventurous album yet (sadly, no legendary Timbaland collabos...), but she's still miles ahead of the other bitches in the game.

That was actually a Prince homage since the song is also reminiscent of Prince...he used to spell his songs like that in the 80s.
