Girls let's have a nice little discussion about something we all know and love: GIFs.
This year has arguably been one of the best years for new and innovative GIFs. We've all seen them; Britney at the BMA's, Maryse slaying the ring, a haggard old bitch running away from another woman, LOL Gaga, among many others. We're only halfway through the year and we've already been graced with so many iconic GIFs.
What is the reason for this influx of GIFs? Why do you think GIFs are such a prominent part of ATRL? Do you think one needs to use GIFs to become an iconic member? What are your favorite GIFs from this year?
I feel that gifs were more popular (and overused) in 2010 than they are in 2011. Of course, gifs will almost always be a part of ATRL. But I've noticed that older members are using them alot less. They were more appealing to me when I first joined, but now it bothers me when I see an illiterate post littered with several gifs. It takes away from the content and the message that the writer is trying to send. On the other hand, it also adds a bitchiness factor to it, which can be perceived as a good and/or bad thing. I guess it all depends on the member. Some people try too hard to be memorable, or as you said, "iconic". It sort of defeats the purpose of ATRL.
I rarely use any gifs now, unless I'm being sarcastic or ****y. Long essay posts + occasional bitchy smileys >>> gifs.
And speaking of which, they really need to get rid of that dumb thing where you can get warning points for using a .gif and having no text in your post, just a .gif. It kind of ruins some posts that could be funny on it's own and then you put some little sentence under it and it's not as funny.
